Thought I'd start this as I've seen some posts in other threads touching on the subject. What are the options for re-coloring/painting, or, touching up an old trailer stove? I know re-doing the enamel is an option but is a quality, high heat paint something that has worked for others before? Here is one link I found. Color selection isn't heinous, and, they offer a gloss overspray that may work to produce a bit of the old enamel shiny look? http://stovepaint.com Are there some high heat tolerant paints that folks have used, and, was the outcome favorable? Thanks. RJ

I am planning to reporcelain my stuff. but that being said.. I have spoken to a few people on line, who spray painted theirs and use them. They say the paint has stayed on, but I am wondering about the fumes.. One guy on here did use some red engine spray and seems happy with it.

Thanks for chiming in Lady. I too have used engine paint that seems to handle those types of high heat just fine under the hood of a hot rod, and, because it dries so hard...there doesn't seem to be any fume problems. I'm just curious to see/hear if others have went down the "high heat tolerant" paint route vs full blown re-enameling to perhaps change their appliance colors.

Yes.. I sent the photo's of my stove top.. $99.00 and my sink $149.00 Since then I have bought a full oven so I am guessing another $99.00 for the oven door. But beautiful red porcelain.. so worth it.

I'm glad I found this thread! How about here in California? John Palmer mobiltecI sprayed my grandpas 1940s fridge about 10 years ago with an appliance spray paint by rustoleum and it still looks nice and still no signs of rust. It stays on our back patio and is exposed to water all the time! I never liked the dull finish, but it stopped the rust which was the most important factor at that time. I was considering powder coating or re enamel for my oven/stove/hood and ice box but thought it was out of my budget. I'm up in CenCal John & Larry but a trip down to SoCal is no big deal for me for a quality bargain!

The go to place in South Gate (So. Cal.) for porcelain is GiGi's Applaince.
There's lots of powder coat places all over the central valley. Capp's in Fresno does high quality powder coat, as well as ceramic coating. Powder coating is only good up to 400 degrees, and it melts.
My stove top was porcelain, but they painted the area below because it does not get hot.
There's NO bargains, you pay for what you get.

John Palmer I guess what I'm saying is that I don't want to be taken advantage of and certainly don't want to pay more than what the appliance is worth itself. Re-chroming, I understand the high price. Especially on pieces that you just can't find. Maybe that's the classic car girl in me coming out! But, the appliances I have a hard time justifying a high price tag refinishing an already white oven and ice box.
