Hi, I am interested in finding out who made the gas light in my trailer. At some point, I want to get a globe for it, so I would like to know what to look for. Thanks, Rod I have seen new globes that claim to be thicker and stronger on ebay for @$15. I don't know if those are the right ones.

I hate to throw wrong information out there, and especially concerning something like gas lamps...they need to be dealt with in a very careful way... But I believe the light is made by Humphries. I am having a tough time locating my reference photos though. The globe is not all that hard to find for these models, just make sure what you are getting is made to withstand the heat from the gas lamp. Here is a link I have saved, and the prices are too good to take a chance on ebay: www.hannarv.com/C/GasLights/6202

The globes are Pyrex, I do believe. It doesn't get much stronger or better than that. Get an original Humphrey. It should fit if you have a Humprhey or Verita. They average $15 new. You can find them on Amazon or VTS (shipping at VTS might make it not a good buy). Humphrey and Veritas have different nose burners but everything should fit.
If you have a Humphrey, the make is stamped on it.

I have the exact same lamp in my 57. It is made by Veritas, the only difference being mine has a burner nose that accepts hard mantles, whereas yours is tie on mantles. I purchased the globe at VTS which was advertised as a "globe for Humphrey gas lights", priced at $15, plus the shipping. It fit perfect.

That is definitely a Veritas light. I am almost certain that the original globes were almost round.. On the 56 Lakewood I bought from a member, the original light was a Veritas, and round original glass. Either way, they are awesome lights

Thanks Ten. I've saved the images for future reference. The "Thousand Eye" globes for a $1.90 were nice!

Does anyone know if we can adapt the tie-on mantle nose to accept a hard mantle? I really really don't want to be lighting tie-on mantles inside my trailer. It's bad enough outside. Ever read the warnings on the baggie that the mantles come in? Cheers Rod

Better to just have them there as a static feature or modify them for electric.

The hard ones are more expensive and actually seem more fragile after being lit. I lit mine once and without even moving my trailer, it started disintegrating, perhaps from the vibrations of me beating and banging. I bought some tie ons and clip on ones to keep on hand. The hard mantles were originally intended for home/cabin use. I don't like tying them, either. I know they are a pain on my Coleman lanterns but try the clip on ones, they are easier.

Hard mantles were indeed designed for stationary use. One can easily convert from hard mantle to a tie-on one by saving a ceramic ring from an old hard mantle and tying soft ones on it.
