Hi all, I'm howard, in the NM desert. I(We) just got a Shasta bumper pull, and will need to know everything. It is titled as a 1980 , and has the number 2550 on the side. It has two level bunks in the back, and everything else looks pretty standard for trailers. I'll post pics as soon as I read how. What was this model called? I havent uncovered the VIN yet, but the title has a long number that I have read was sometimes used by DMV, in error. Oh, it is a Missouri original title. Now, tell us everything Thanks, Howard and Sandy. PS. can you tell we're excited?

First off, welcome to "the" vintage trailer forum. Please, pull up a log by the camfire, grab a beverage of choice, and chime in often! There is a VIN thread down the page a bit in the Shasta section. I believe if you post your VIN there, the OP can help you out with your trailer's "roots" so to speak. Congrats on your new/old trailer. There's a pic tutorial thread at the beginning of each forum section that will help you with your photos. If you haven't discovered mobiltec's cannedham.com site and his restoration VIDs, you really want to check them out. Again, welcome. RJ

Thanks all. What did they call a 2550 with two level beds in the back? Reading furiously, but haven't found a similar picture yet. We'll be asking about repairing the wood frame under the door later. The sag is warping the door frame. We have a jack under it now so we can use the door, which was off when we got it. We'll be tackling the heater next, I guess. It's nippy here. Anyway, many thanks again. H&S

Welcome to VTT from another New Mexican! I'm up north, not in the desert. I don't know what it is, other than a pretty big Shasta - the experts and historians will be along shortly. Here it is:

It appears to be one of the later units built after Coachman bought them out.

morning guys, gals, and??? It's nice to find a group with knowledge, that's willing to be nice, AND helpful. I have read that from 1980, to the original demise, Shasta info is sparse. This is an 80, (M?)2550. We needed a guesthouse/refuge because our retirement home is designed for just the two of us. Anyway, this was available, and within our budget, and the rear bunk area is a fascinating, seclusion space. We'll enjoy it, but will probably never lug it anywhere. We still want a 16 (Or so)footer, for camping. Gotta have wings tho. We built a teardrop a few years ago, and it had to have wings too. But I digress. The 2550 has plastic wings, and the stripes are Coachman colors, IMO, so I guess they built it. That's about all I know at this point. More to come, I'm sure. H.

I am a little sketchy on my "Shasta History 101" once past the early 70's. But if memory serves me correctly, the original Shasta company was bought out by Coachmen in 1975. The later '70s models were very similar to the ones that Shasta had in their lineup prior to the sellout. In the early 80's they started to merge the model lines. The Daisy and a couple others come to mind as the earlier of the Coachmen/Shasta line as it evolved. Somewhere in the later 70's and 80's they used a naming system for the models which were numbers, and I believe the numbers were coded for the size of the camper. I almost think that if you measure that unit from bumper to ball, you will find it to be 25 and a half feet long, and I believe the "bunkhouse" was a unique feature to that model. The Coachmen Shasta line continued to use the signature wings I believe until 1988. I think they went to the plastic design in about 1982. Don't carve any of this info into stone...I am only recalling some of the early researching I was doing when I was first trying to identify my first Shasta. 1982 Brochure. Notice the wings:
