Good morning Back about 30 years ago I had a couple of these old trailers, but that was before I realized how cool and popular they are. Now I'm retired and I've been thinking about getting another old trailer just for some local camping. I looked on the internet and was surprised at how many enthusiasts there are and how cute these trailers can get. Now I really want one. I'm on a fixed income but I've got a lot of handyman experience having had a farm for 26 years so I can likely fix up most anything. Jim

Welcome Jim. Glad to have you on board. Please, pull up a log by the campfire and join the conversation. I'm pretty new here myself but really like the group that hangs out here.

Welcome to VTT Jim. If you are on a fixed income places to look besides the internet and every back road, would be to place an inexpensive wanted ad in your local Penny Pincher/Trader weekly advertiser. We have one that costs $6 for 3 weeks with a small pic. Also if you have a senior citizen's center...post on bulletin board want ad and finally if your church has a church bulletin that might include want ads or even would include a "what is he doing in is retirement" newsy article, you could mention you are looking to recapture the days when you had an old camper, include, of course, that you want it to introduce your grandkids to the wholesome camping experiences you remember so well. Good luck in your quest.

Welcome section10. I'm also part of the retired group here, also fixed income so I have to sneak into the cookie jar to support the rebuild of my field-find '69. When I got it I was still in my 45 year old still-working frame of mind and didn't contemplate, despite a year lurking on the old VTSA site, how much energy and effort it would take. But a daily dose of all the members' stories here of equal devotion to the end result will be more than enough to get you through the process of the search, the find, the estimate of needed work, and the discovery of how it can be fun even if it's a total redo. As many here have said, discovering your project is just a matter of looking; maybe in somebody's back yard or left in a camp ground, even in the corner of a scrap yard. It won't break the bank to buy an appropriate project, since you know your way around tools, but it might put a damper on vacations to the beach to get said project to your expectations. My advice... go to the beach first (unless you live on a coast, then a moot point). Then read here all you can about what to look out for before you buy, and then have fun. It sure feels good to tow that first one home.
It's cold and grey here in southern Ohio and I wish I was on a warm beach.

Jim You have our sympathy for becoming involved in a past time that will absorb all your spare time and spare money, but it offers some rewards also. Welcome to VTT we have fun here and share some information as we go along but most of all we offer a little encouragement to each other as we pursue our hobby/passion to make these trailers better, more durable, and safer than new.
