Well it all started with my wife saying "I think I want a vintage trailer. . . It will be fun".
Next thing you know we are talking to a friend who knows someone who has a pristine 63 Shasta 16' camper that literally still has plastic on the cushions. Husband wants to sell for $2k, but his wife decides she wants to keep it to someday gut it and turn it into a food service truck. Our hearts sank.
Found a '64 Shasta 16sc on Craigslist in Madison, WI. Great guy who has worked well with us in sending pics, documentation, etc. He bought her with intentions of wanting to fix her up. He even bought a whole box of stainless screws that he's throwing in. Original tail lights, gas lamp, magazine rack, toilet, etc. Missing oven and original icebox. Skins in pretty good shape. Missing wings (can be replaced a) Slight water damage around vent (fixed) and bathroom. Overall seems pretty sound.
Heading out this morning to go pick her up. I think I'm as excited as my wife is. Praying for low wind, no snow, and a safe trip as we begin our Epic Journey of restoring this little trailer to her former glory.

Yes that does say 7 degrees and yes that is snow. Just a light dusting though. Best to get her home before snow really starts falling this winter

Will do. Thanks to this site, I hope we have all the tools and knowledge to get her home safely. Tires are supposed to be good and axel bearings just repacked a few hrs ago.
I know many of you have brought home many trailers. What's the top couple of tips you would give some vintage trailer rookies for getting her home safely?

7 degrees? Yikes, I was whining about 20 degrees in WA state this morning, lol. Congrats on your trailer and I wish you folks a safe trip bringing her home. Obviously, check all the trailer lights (brakes/turn signals, etc.) before you pull out and take your time on the way home. The old trailers were built in the era of the 55 MPH speed limit (not framed/built for modern speeds), and, most folks didn't even go that fast when pulling a trailer Only other thing that comes to mind is to ask the seller if he's serviced the wheel bearings. I'd still stop periodically and "feel" the bearing caps to ensure they're not warm/hot... that's bad. Again, congrats on your new/old trailer and have a safe trip home! RJ

There's some threads with list here somewhere. Seems like each one presents its one unique problems. I had to stop and tie down my propane bottles on my last one because they were bouncing up and down. Also have had to duct tape loose window panes. You really want to make sure that rotted skirts boards don't lend to the disaster described in The Worst Experience Ever as described in this thread: vintagetrailertalk.freeforums.net/thread/173/worst-experienceYou seem to have done your home work. I hope it all goes well for you. And no, I can't complain about our cold morning here.

Don't forget to bring portable tail lights in case the ones on the trailer fail, and duct tape and rope... ask me how I know..

Got her picked up. Pretty uneventful except for the car full of crackheads who were also meeting so one at that same storage location to meet the owner. May have been meeting a drug dealer. Kinda weird.

COOL BEANS! Nice looking camper.. dang it looks cold there. Safe travels and I trust that she'll make it home just fine. Don't be in a rush with it take your time. She looks good from the curb and welcome to the forum.
