The 7/8 twisty nails can be found in the CARPET and FLOORING section of Home Depot. They use them to hold down the metal trim for carpet...

HD has the #13 x 7/8. In my store, they're in the fastener aisle with all the rest of the nails, but on the screw side of the aisle, not the nail side. The page says that they're available in other finishes, too. The fasteners at HD are stocked and controlled by the vendors, and the stock numbering system is weird, so look hard, don't take the word of the first guy you see who's never had anyone ask for them before. www.homedepot.com/p/13-x-7-8-in-Brass-Plated-Twist-Nails-10-Pack-97094/202105662?keyword=twist+nails

Ever since I started our 63 I've done nothing but cuss the day twisty nails were invented! I hate them with a passion. Now I know why pneumatic staplers and brad guns were invented.

Ever since I started our 63 I've done nothing but cuss the day twisty nails were invented! I hate them with a passion. Now I know why pneumatic staplers and brad guns were invented. Brads and staples will NOT hold the paneling up under all the bouncing around that trailers do now and did back then. Back in the day a lot of the roads were still dirt. You need that larger head and you need that twist to keep the ceiling panels up. And they do the same thing for the walls which are swaying back and forth all the time because the whole thing is riding on a suspension system. Unfortunately for us they are hard to remove without damaging the paneling but then again these trailers were not built to be restored easily. They were built to last long enough for the warranty to run out. But many of them lasted longer.

Keep in mind, brads and staples is all they use now in todays campers/rv's. Ceilings, walls, floors, cabinets, trim, everything. Will they last 30+ years? Probably not!

What they use now has no bearing on what they used then and what is the standard for an original look. Besides like I said. They work great. LOL... The fact that they work so well is what you hate about them. Turn that hate into love Soup. Don't be a hater man. Just say to yourself.... "the twisty is nice.... the twisty is nice..." Be the twisty... Walk a mile in a twisty's shoes before you judge a twisty...

It's just I can't find a way to remove them without causing so much damage. It's like every time I have to remove something it gets destroyed just getting it apart. Out of all the trailers I've done, this 63 Compact of ours is the first I've worked on that had nothing but twisty used. It was also the first that had the wall frame held together with towed in nails and not staples! No wonder it lasted so long in 1 piece. Don't hate me for loving my air stapler and brad gun so much either! HA!
