I have a whole tutorial on VCT cutting and installation.
There are four parts to this series and you can also find them in my Trailer Tidbits on the website... I was taught by a professional who has done lots and lots of Walmart floors not to mention thousands of houses and other types of industrial buildings.
This tutorial is with the cabinets still in place. On my trailers I remove everything but the floor to ceiling cabinet then I cover the entire trailer floor. But this shows lots of different cuts and how they are made which is why I chose this job for the series.
Part 1

I put down a layer of 1/4 inch luan subfloor (quality luan with a solid core-not MDF core) over the original tiles. following recommendations from people here on the board.

Using a luan subfloor is something I have never done but my flooring mentor says it's done in real buildings all the time. I just can't bring myself to doing it though. For one thing I'm 6 foot 3 and need all the head room I can get. For the other I just don't cover anything up at all. I repair or replace. Just me I guess.

Is the only option for ordering the VCT tiles Home Depot? Does anyone know a vendor that sells them by the piece? I want to use three colors in my compact, which is about 15 sqft of flooring and I'll end up with LOTS left if I buy three cases!

I'm 6'6" so I learned to duck years ago. That is what first started me designing and building my own units with 6'8" ceilings

I think our local HD will sell by the piece but not sure if they will special order that way.

I'm a dork! I spoke to my local Home Depot and they said the VCT were a special order. I thought that was a HD policy, not that store's policy. I'll call the HD's in Albuquerque and chase that rabbit, thanks!

How do VCT tiles hold up after lots of expanding and contracting and different temperatures and humidity? I live in Wisconsin and am worried about the gaps between tiles growing and ruining my floor.
