Yes it came with brakes and the step I can't tell you about. Mine doesn't have one. These are so low stock that I don't know why you would need one.

My '64 has a step. And brakes. But I can't say for sure anything for the pre-1960 models. It seems as though the step should be obvious if it were there, since it is welded into the frame. If it is missing, it should show signs of being cut out.

That's what tents are for LOL... No really ok. I would go with a 4 inch or 6 inch platform that you just throw inside the door for travel. But if you want the slide out they can be had all over the internet. You can even get some that say Shasta I think...

My 62 Compact came with a step and according to the original first owner, it was factory. It is not welded. There is a 2x8 bolted to the frame with 6 bolts. The step does not say Shasta. While it may not be necessary for me, it sure does help out my short legged dog

FYI: My 59 Airflyte has a step mounted and I just painted it yesterday. Have to kick it hard today. My windows are off and big storms rolling into Minnesota for the next few days.

My '63 Airflyte (probably built in '62 according to the VIN database) has brakes but no step.
