Moonshiner asked me to calculate the yardage for cushions. The cushions are 18.5x40x5" thick. I have posted below a photo of how I lay out yardage in case it helps someone here with their project. Fabric is 54" x 192".. or 5.3 yards. I am recommending that Moonshiner buy 5.5 yards as a minimum amount. 1. I add an inch to the length of each cushion and the width.. thus the "41x19.5" you see in the photo, this is the 1/2 inch seam allowance. 2.By measuring all the way around the cushion I find out that it is 117 inches around. 3. I cut out the front and side bands to go just to the back corner of the cushions (6x78") This gives me 1/2 inch seam allowance for the 5 inch cushion, and 77 inches of band when I deduct the seam allowance. 4. Since the cushion is 117 inches around, when I deduct 77 inches I have 40 inches left for the zipper side, but I need to add a seam allowance as well. So I cut my zipper pieces 41 inches by 7 inches. 7 inches gives me two 3 inch pieces with seam allowance on each side. 5. By looking at the photo, you can see how I laid out the yardage. I would also try laying it out running lengthwise if I thought it would save fabric, or if the pattern was running that way. If I wanted to add piping I would buy 118 inches or about 3.25 yards for each row of piping I wanted to add to the cushions. So 13 yards of piping for cushions with piping just on the top edge, or 26 yards of piping for cushions with piping on both sides.

You can also cut the binding on the bias. It takes more fabric but you could use the extra for throw pillow. When the binding is cut on the bias, it will travel around the cushions easier and give you a more professional look.
