Hello Ross, just joined. I recently bought a 1954 Shasta. I think its the 1400 model. It's a basket case and needs a lot of work. But my step son and I are going to fix it. May nit be exactly back to original. But it will be close and more. There was no plate next to the door so I don't know where it was made. No raised plate on the a-frame. But I found the VIN! It's C3592

e4drhtLooks like you have a Shasta 1500, produced in Van Nuys California, in 1954. The 1500 model was only model being built, at the time. Is your Shasta painted or is it a Silverside (no paint)?

I think it was originally silverside. But its been white and is now black. We will paint it white and red when we fix the frame.

Based on the other Shasta vin#'s that I have collected, the Van Nuys plant produced the 1500 model for the first 5 years, starting in 1952 through 1957. This is not to say that there weren't others being produced, but I don't have any proof that there were any others. The Shasta vin#'s are in chronological order and this is where I get my info.
What is the total length of your Shasta, tongue to bumper? This will help identify the model that you have.

Hello, I have what I was told is a 1969 Shasta Starflyte. The only numbers I see on it are T8647 stamped on curb side. 8647 is also stamped on the front of the tongue.
It has a plate on the side that says Shasta Starflyte. Can you help me tell the exact year and where it was made? I dont have a title.
Thanks! Linda Kirkland

Hey Linda,
Your Shasta Starflyte was born in 1968 in Grapevine Texas. It was probably sold in 1969.
Hope this helps, Ross

Hello Ross,
I'm new to the Shasta world, camper world for that matter. Looking for some help on all the info I can get for the 1963 Shasta 1500 we bought. On the inside of the tow area there is a plate with 22740, on the back of the camper it has a plate (State of California, Division of Housing) with: M-66, S-22740, 2674, then a DoH number of DA-26146. Now, the Title says FS-22740 and, it actually has 1969 on it, however that seems to be a mistake based on the fact it looks exactly like a 1963 inside and out. Any help and clarity you can provide would be great!

kunzelmanI will be able to help date your Shasta on Monday. We are heading out on a short trip to visit my father. Just wanted to let you know of the delay.

kunzelmanYour Shasta 1500's vin# is already in the database and it was produced in 1963, in Northridge, California. Being that the title states that it is a 1969 Shasta, could be that was when it was titled. The entire vin# should read FS22740-PA2674 Ross

Thanks Ross. The little VIN plate I found was welded on the inside of the front frame area by the just back from the hitch, "driver's side", road side or port (not sure which term is correct). Where do you think I should look for the entire VIN#? Would it be stamped on the frame somewhere? Also, do you know if the entire VIN helps to determine color? Options? model? or was it all basically where it was made and numerical order. Any literature on that, not finding much with my searches. Any help or pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Any help and clarity you can provide would be great! You already found them. It is rare that the entire vin# was stamped into the frame or onto a weld plate. I haven't seen this with any other production plant, except in California and that is with the "State of California, Division of Housing" metal badge. As far as I know, the M-66 is just a building/safety code (I think), S-22740 is the first part of vin# (just missing the first prefix letter which can be found on the tongue) and the 2674 is the model (just missing the common prefix letters PA). The vin#s are stamped on the curbside tongue (either on the top or outside) and on a welded plate on the inside of the streetside tongue.
