Does anyone know what mechanism slides the clamp forward? It was froze up and Jim had to tow the trailer home with chains wrapped around the hitch (it was close by). I managed to get it free today but the clamp dohiggy inside isn't traveling back into position when I raise the arm. Wondering what is inside and if I (we) can take it apart to fix?
Called Hadco, they laughed at me, guess they don't make couplers anymore

Spray some PB Blaster catalyst and let it soak, it might free up.

"Hadco coupler" sounds like something you'd overhear at CERN.

Does it have a large nut underneath? you can usually remove this with an impact wrench and clean everything up, then grease not oil the hound out of it. parts are also available at tractor supply to rebuild some of them

I am not familiar with that brand of coupler BUT if in doubt about it cut it off and buy a new one. If it came loose while towing on the highway it could result in the loss of the trailer and worse yet someone could get killed over you trying to get by with a 50/60 year old rusty piece of junk coupler. The life you save could be mine or maybe yours.

Don't give up yet. Blaster and wait, work it. All of my Hadcos are in fine shape and latch securely...

I'll try the blaster. Trust me, if we have any doubt about it's safety we'll replace it. I'm mostly interested right now in being able to tow it a short distance to get an appraisal (once we get some of the parts back on it).

"The Man" decided it was safer to get a new couple, cut the Hadco off. Laying around here somewhere if anyone needs one!

Generous to offer the Hadco. If nobody wants it, I may, just to save it. PM me if it comes to tossing it...
