I've got the keys to the Bargman lock on the entry door of my Frolic, and I never thought to check them until now, and they don't work. Any ideas? Could it be rekeyed by a locksmith or is there something you all know that I don't?

I didn't think my door key worked on my lock, either. The PO even told me it didn't work, said it only fit the baggage compartment. There were two keys, one went to the baggage compartment and the other to the door. The door key worked fine after we cleaned the mechanism with some WD40.

There's a post here somewhere about locks and the new cylinders, you might want to search for it. If I run across it, I'll post it here.

Thanks. I used the Search feature but nothing came up. ?? I'll check VTS re: the new cylinder. Not sure how I'll identify it, but I'll give it a try. I'd sure like to be able to lock it up. The PO said he had found another set of keys, but I no longer know how to reach him.

Hi Lopo...Good to hear from you again. It may be possible that a good lubrication job may free up the mech in the lock so that your keys will work again, being careful to not twist the key off in the cylinder that is. Taking the lock apart from the door is really quite simple, it takes only a Philips screwdriver if I remember right. The actual "moving" parts in the lock cylinder can be oiled from behind the cylinder, inside the handle assembly, without disassembling the mech. Just be warned that if you have to take the mech apart, there are a few small parts to watch out for. If lubing the cylinder does not work, there are replacement cylinders available. There are two types in the L-66. One is round, the other has a "Tab" on one end of the round, pointing at the latch end. Not a great photo but it can be seen, for comparison. This is the type linked above. It is more readily available than the round ones. Changing out the cylinder is a relatively easy process too. It probably can be easily re-keyed, but it is probably not working due to sticking tabs in the cylinder. You might even try some Thrust, or other GOOD penetrating oil injected from the exterior before taking anything apart. Glad to help if you need any more.

We bought and installed a new lock cylinder in our Bargman L66 lock, (no keys came with the trailer) and it works like a charm. It is very easy to do, and the cylinders can be bought on Ebay and VTS. IIRC, ours was about $25.00...well worth the money.

Glad to hear that about the cylinder. The reviews of it on Vintage Trailer Supply ($19.95) are iffy. Some reviews are great, but many say that the cylinder breaks almost immediately. I won't be locking and unlocking it often, so I think I'll give the cylinder a try.
