I need help on a critical issue. I'm restoring 1966 Shasta StarFlyte. I've watched most of Mobitec videos. Thanks for that inspiration. My question is Vertical Seams. The Shasta has seams above the entry door, the 5" roll siding terminates on each side of the door and a flat piece of aluminum is overlapped on each side by the 5" roll siding. The problem is this is a simple overlap joint that leaked heavily since the door header was totally rotted away. Is this typical? Is there any good way of doing a vertical seam. It appears the S and Pittsburgh seams are used for horizontal seams only. I'm going to be replacing much of the siding, but also still expect to have to have a vertical seam since don't know how to get a 14' piece of Aluminum shipped to my house.

I'm guessing those may not be original. Hemet valley will ship a roll to you you just have to pay for it.

My 71 Loflyte has the same deal. Now, while it is the same material as the rest of the siding, (not a flat sheet of aluminum) it does have the vertical seams. There is no bent joint. The front lays on top the next like a "shingle". The eyebrow drip rail helps attach it to main body. It seals with a vertical run of putty tape seperating one peice from the next. Mine is factory, and I am tapeing it up again the same way. My door header was fine, it was not leaking.
and.. at a glance from a pic on this PC, I only have about 2" from the Eye brow to the Jrail as well. So, the door head trim to the top jral, 3 or 4 inches. Yours looks alot higher..

It's normal for that year and model. New putty tape under the seams is needed.
