Hello from Hamlet and his people! We found the VTSF just a couple weeks after Brian started it, and it took us an entire month to figure this one out. Duh. Anyway, Hamlet and his people have arrived. I wonder how long it will take to rack up those 2500 posts we had over at VTSF! We are a couple of former backpackers who still like things small and simple. So we have a 1959 (we think) Compact. We never have been able to locate a readable VIN. It doesn't matter, we love our little guy regardless of his age. He was a complete wreck and we did a whitewalls up rebuild/restore. Did some fun things along the way, but unless you know what they looked like rolling off the assembly line in Indiana, you wouldn't notice that he's not original. We had so many things going on during the 18 month project, we never did a proper restore thread, but for those of you who have never been subjected to our daughter's blog post of Hamlet, here's the link... www.howiseelife.com/blog/2011/06/20/trailer/Hamlet has gone on a few long (multi-week) road trips, and a bunch of short ones. Right now, he's the weekday home of his lady person who commutes from her job in Portland, OR to their real home 130 miles north in Steilacoom, WA. This will probably last for close to a year, so Hamlet's mini bathroom with shower comes in really handy. He's comfortably ensconced at a nice RV park across the street from the Columbia river, and although he's surrounded by monster RVs, he is not intimidated in the least. He knows he has more class than the rest of them combined. Hamlet is his name because he's not big enough to be a full "ham." Also, he's like a really small settlement. And, we admit to raising a couple English majors. So when we wax rhapsodic, forgive us, we can't help it. Anyway, we're happy to be here!

Whew! I'm happy you made it - looking around the rubble after the smoke cleared this morning, Hamlet was noticeably absent. I was wondering where you were. I feel like we've all fled a country or escaped over a wall or something. We keep saying to each other, "so glad you made it!"

AAH! Good one, gonekayaking! Didn't think about that one. The rest of our lives have been so crazy lately, we just continued with VTSF, oblivious to the ado around us. Kinda like the time I ran into a labor room after a panicked call from the dad, only to find out that mom just birthed a healthy baby all by herself! Missed all the "exciting" stuff.
