71’ Shasta Stratoflyte 18”: I am scouring the internet for the original wood framing layout so I can repair my girl as correctly as possible. So far I’ve not found a picture of what I’m looking for. I’ve just made a drawing myself after pausing different YT videos (looking at you Mobiletec 😉) while they had the skins off different trailers and taking my best guess. Anyone have info on this for me?

Just some thoughts, that you may have already tried. I will mention anyway. Are you also doing searches for other model years for the 18' Shasta Stratoflyte ? I see they come in different lengths which doesn't help. Sometimes the search results come up differently if you change the year of the model. Sometimes the models didn't change their interior layouts over a few years. Here is a 1969 model that is an 18 footer (according to the home page) as an example. ceciliatheshasta.com/1969-shasta-stratoflyte/ This trailer is long sold as the ad was posted back in 2018. Did you find any models that were for sale? Internet ads generally have interior pix to reference. Youtube has for sale videos that people post. That's another way to find info on interiors, not just a layout diagram. Just some thoughts. Rod

I think I’m wording it wrong. I’m looking for the wood “bones” part of the framing. Like between the metal siding and the interior wall panels. Where the insulation and electrical go. That’s the framing layout I need………..if that makes sense lol

Most trailers are framed very similarly. You don't have to copy exactly to have a sound trailer. Copy the skins and add backers for fixtures. Of course frame the windows and doors. There should be enough framing left to copy.

You said you were watching Larry's videos. Did you find the series on the 66 Super Shasta? Though a bit older than yours, the build technique in the framing is similar. There are also blogs with still images, as well. Photos are so much easier to work with than a freeze frame in a video. This might help when asking questions even though its a canned ham. vintagetrailertalk.freeforums.net/thread/1093/vintage-trailer-framingCheers, Rod

I have/am watching Larry’s Super Shasta build, that’s where I’m trying to get the screen shots of his frame from. I would love to find the blogs with the still photos because I completely agree, they would be much easier to work with. Thank u for the link TeachnDad!!!

When you are planning your framing, of course you start with the placement of the windows and door. Then, consider laying out "studs" horizontally rather than vertically like a house. Running a long 2x3 from front to back will give a lot of needed stability to the coach.

I haven't seen anyone using the original construction techniques in repair or replacement videos. My 1964 Shasta 16' Airflyte has 3/4 thick 1 3/4 framing joined with staples with a 1" crown (top width) and 5/8" legs (depth). It was a quick assembly method and lightweight and probably "good enough" for a trailer with a normal life expentancy. Don Lemon would say these old gals though are long past their prime. That staple is now used for roofing in house construction. I'm seeing that modern trailer repair employs more cabinetry techniques which I'm sure is stronger and more fun for the technician.
