I'm just wondering if there is something I can use to give a little bit of a shine to the original flooring in my 1957 Pathfinder without making it slippery?

Floor wax works well. Buy the spendy stuff and be sure that it's for your type of flooring.

If it is VCT, you could try a floor or wax stripper first (in an out of site place first). After stripping, rinsing, and drying (it should have an even dullness) then apply the polish. I applied mine with a roller from one of those "hot dog" paint rollers. Not with the roller action but by itself, used it to apply the polish (goes one real wet). Follow the instructions and apply about 3 coats.
As always, just my opinion, didn't say it was a good one... Whitney
