I have a 66 beeline that I am replacing the roof and resealing. It has a corner cap instead of j rail. I plan on using gutterseal on the edge before I use real buytl tape . I am thinking of using some type of waterproof tape also. Can anyone recommend a brand if they have used it. Not sure if the buytl tape will stick well to it. Trying to figure out the best way to seal it!

Butyl or putty tape first. It goes along the edges of the C cap, on the underneath side. How does the cap attach? Are there screws to ooze the putty? Is the edge wood sound on the trailer? The screw grip is very important as it allows the putty to be seated and seal any gaps.
OSI gutter seal is used after the cap is sealed. A very thin layer smoothed with a paint thinner dipped finger will protect the seams.
More info please.

The wood looks good. There are scews about every 4 inchs on the roof side of the cap. Not sure I'm a fan of that ,but thats how it was originally. The roof skin is not overlapped like the metal on my 62 shasta and I 'm a little worried about the gap where the side metal and roof skin meet. That's why I was wondering if some sort of seal is needed (like tape) before I put the buytl tape on

Sounds like the cap will stop leaks. Putty goes on the edges. You might try 3/16 thick plus add putty in any dips.
Eternabond tape would seal the seam but be SURE it doesn't prevent the cap from fitting flush. Eternabond is so not fun to work with; it's STICKY and awkward to trim. Figure out the width before purchase. Can you post a photo of the seam?
Before you replace the cap and tape, seal any and all divots, nail heads and staples with OSI gutter seal. This will also work at the cap seams when done.
