I recently purchased a 1969 Scotty Serro. While practicing changing the tires the bearing dust caps fell off. These are plastic screw in dust caps. The threads are stripped. Currently I have used yellow Teflon tape to snug the threads up as a short-term solution. My options: 1. Replaced the threaded caps which may not be possible unless there are unused or undamaged caps on someone’s shelf. 2. Replace the wheel with a modern hub that accepts press on dust caps. However, the 69 Scotty has a small diameter spindle that I have not yet matched up to a modern hub (still looking). 3. Replace the whole torsion spring axle with a new fabricated torsion spring axle. If anyone has experience with this issue I would appreciate your insights. Thank you.
