I spent 9 years bringing this old wagon back to life and intend to use it to pull our 1956 Shasta. My wifes grandmother purchased it new in 1954 and has always been in the family. Danny and a little video a local news reporter did a few month ago. youtu.be/vQFdZhonyVE

Camperdude, I love your truck! The Texaco emblems are fabulous! OK, we bit the bullet and it's not vintage, brand new and in transit so no pics yet. Found something that totally meets my needs in every way. Wait for it... Edit: Got it! Posted it in the Modern Tow Vehicle thread.

Cool car,I learned how to drive in my dad's black 62 Galaxie,,brings back a lot of memories. With the exception of the mags, side pipes and half head light covers it looks pretty much the same. Danny

Danny Thanks Danny! Up until a few years ago I didn't drive. When I did learn it was on a 64 Rambler wagon, when I finally drove a car with power steering and brakes it felt like a go cart!

I guess it now makes me a VINTAGE DRIVER, because when I look at all these tow vehicles and say to myself "they don't look so old".
I still remember going down to the new car dealerships in October to see the new 1957 models that just went on the showroom floor. LOL

My first car was a 1953 Chevy and it was newer than most of my friends parents cars. I didn't get my first new car till 1963 and it was a Ford convertible. I thought my poop didn't stink I was very proud of it and when it was three months old a lady came left of center and hit me head on with both of us running around fifty, not much fun.

^^ Not fun bill, but good thing you had all that metal around you. Don't try that today, it never ends well... I'd love to have that Chevy Pickup above. Other than that one, I have two "fantasy" tow vehicles. I had one of these in my younger days, loved that ole car... 1966 Olds Delta 88. This is another '66 that would look nice with an Airflyte tagging along:

That Bird would look good with anything behind it.

Well I finally "bit the bullet", and I now have a "new" tow car in the garage. Well at least it's new to me. A 1957 Ford Tudor Ranch Wagon. It was repainted to a factory original two tone blue/white paint color, and got all new upholstery about a year ago. Has a 351 Windsor motor and a C6 transmission. It was already converted to power front disk brakes. It's going to need lots of finish detail work.
I'd like to update the power steering box, rebuild the front suspension, convert it to electric wipers, install a Vintage Air system, and build a receiver hitch. Basically, I want a bullet proof tow vehicle with all the comforts for 300 to 400 mile-a-day trips while towing a travel trailer.

John it sounds like you are almost ready to go, I always liked the 57 Fords the 57 Chevy always got more attention but the Fords were my favorite. I friend of mine had a 57 convertible that was original except he had replaced the top and interior, He passed away recently and it went to his brother who plans on keeping it, but I would love to have it.

We towed with a 1963 Ford Wagon when they were fairly new and it was a grand tow vehicle even if it did only get 10 or 12 mpg. But it was large and comfortable to ride in, it didn't mind 1000 mile days and neither did we but we were a little younger then.
