I am in Ohio. I thought the early 289s were five bolt also, didn't think they changed until 68 or 69. Oh well been to many years ago for the old mans memory, haven't messed with small block Fords for probably 20 years.

I had a 64 Fairlane two door Sports Coupe 289 271HP "K code" car back in the late 1960's. It came originally with a T-10 four speed, but by the time I bought it, it had been converted to a c4 auto. I beat the day lights out of that c4, and never broke it. It was bullet proof.
But make sure you do your home work before starting on the AOD transmission conversion, because all of the early cars were five bolt blocks and bell housings. I believe the later 302 style was a six bolt pattern. I would have complete confidence in a built C4, but the AOD is much better for today's highway speeds with overdrive.
My "K code" Fairlane came with a nine inch rear end as O.E., but your wagon most likely has a eight inch rear end. It's easy to tell the difference, on a nine inch you need a box end wrench to get the bottom case nuts off.

This makes me so excited! I have a 1964 Dart with the push button tran as well, albeit the Slant 6 not the 8. I can't wait to show my husband this picture. He is not as fond of my Dart as I am. I too want to use my Dart to tow my 62 Metzendorf. Based on the threads I've been reading, it's going to be a long road. Thanks for the inspiration. I'm in the Northeast, so I'm not sure about resources/etc... My Baby. 1964 Dodge Dart 1st year V-8, last year push button automatic tranny. Still looking for hitch. This has been hands down the best car I have ever owned and will NEVER sell it. Now if I can just get that hitch, we can pull our 63 Compact with it. U-Haul hitch center offered me a free hitch if I can get me and my car out west for a couple of days so they can design one. (The car even almost makes me look good in the pic! HA HA!) I lo
