(Bear with me for a sec) If I went w/ a Thetford Curve and installed a grey water tank (instead of the BWT) could the Curve handle getting wet if I went with a wet bath setup? I already have a water pump installed and new water tank. I plan on putting in a insta hot no matter what.
Maybe make a waterproof cover for the head to protect the electrical if need be? I have access to heavyweight sewing machine, so maybe a throwback and use some nice marine canvas! (Idea is just a starting place)
Just a thought. Not pushing you away, but depending on your answers to your post, an option would be to also ask this question on an RV forum. It's a good question, but RVers might have more experience with this or contact Thetford directly and maybe they will have an answer or a suggestion for one of their other models.
I look forward to responses to this thread.
Cheers,
Rod

I have a Thetford Curve and the wife and I have used it for a couple weeks over multiple trips. We have had no issues but the main complaint is that the electrical on the battery operated pump fails for a fair number of people and Thetford does not sell the battery unit separately in the states. I went on Amazon UK and was able to buy a manual pump as a backup (not sold in the US). That's issue #1 I can think of and a humid wet environment might not be great for keeping the electrical pump working even with a cover.
They are tall and tippy and will probably fall over while traveling unless you use the floor mount flange or have it wedged in a small area. Don't know if you want to drill into the shower floor to mount it?
They are HEAVY when full and you need some space to grasp and maneuver and that might be tough in a cramped shower enclosure.
Those are the issues that pop in my head first. I'd probably look for a different cassette toilet if I were going to try it - probably better options out there.

Weelllllll, I am actually torn between the Curve and the Camco 41544. The Curve ends up costing $250 by the time you purchase the mounting plate and I would still have to dance around the electric pump. However the Camco is all manual and just a tad wider, same capacity and Camco is considerably less expensive which is $ to my grey tank.
The community here seems to prefer the Thetford which says a lot but I need to read up on the Camco for my needs.
Hi Friends, Let me throw my own experience into the mix. I have an older version of the Thetford 92814 Porta Potti.
I keep it under the bed and when we need it, I pull it out usually at night. The VERY nice thing about this model is that it has a level indicator, which is basically a float. It starts out green and as you fill it up with urine, the indicator slowly “creeps to red”. Fully red means that it’s full. So, if a person wants to, they can purge it before it fills up and therefore is a lot lighter to move around. BTW, you have to add half of a small bottle of a waste chemical to the lower waste tank before use.
Even this small size gets a little heavy when you have to move it when it’s full. It does come apart when you have to purge the contents, though. The weight comes from the fresh water reservoir in the top half and the urine in the lower half. Together, they add up.
I think this model should be a consideration for your needs. It’s got no electronics on it and it’s entirely made of plastic so no need to worry about moisture issues. I suggest looking up the model and some videos on how to use it. I think you might be surprised. You also won’t have to mess with installing a grey tank. It’s also not that expensive.
The following might be TMI, but, if I have to make a do do , I just place a plastic bag inside the bowl and then do my business into that. Haul it out after and it’s done. No mess in the tank. That way I never have to worry about trying to get fecal matter out of the lower waste tank section of the porta potty. One person can easily get three days out of the capacity.
Cheers,
Rod

Like Rod, we have the Thetford porta potty. We have been using it for more than a decade and have never had a problem with it. It doesn’t hold as much (which means that little me can take care of it), but it’s fine for two or three days before we have to find a dump station. It’s simple and ick-free to empty, clean and replace. It’s easy to fill the fresh water and using th e”de-smellifier”, we rarely notice any odor. We have it in Hamlet’s converted closet to wet room. The height is fine as we used a shower pan/potty combo which raises the unit about 4 inches.
