I'm fixing up my old taillights on a 68 Shasta (photos below). The plastic lenses screw into 3 posts on the metal backplate. If there ever was any material inside those posts, it is long gone. A previous owner had simply put some longer screws in, which went all the way to though the aluminum skin.
My thought for a better solution is to fill the 3 posts with something like JB Weld epoxy, then drill some guide holes and screw the lenses down with the same kind of screws as I'm using on the skins (zinc #8 3/4 inch). But does anyone have a better suggestion?
Thanks!

These appear to be Bargman 99 plates. The posts are spacers to support the lens. All of my lenses like this have been attached by running the screw thru the spacer and into the skin. Great care must be taken not to tighten the lens screws too tightly, as it will break the lens mounting holes.
An easy way to wire these lights is to run the wires thru a hole drilled in the base and wing nut the connections inside the lens. Makes for quick repairs when needed.
The JB weld idea is an interesting one. You might experiment with an extra spacer to see how the screws grip and if the JB weld is soft enough to accept a screw?
This is a Reflecto base but the wires give you the idea:

Vacuum hose placed into the tubes can work. Need something small diameter and thin wall.
