I went to transfer the title on my next project camper. It was an end of the world experience. What usually takes 15 minutes took two hours.
1. Wait on line outside the building that is 100 people long, 6 feet apart. 2. Get into the hallway and fill out a form explaining what you want with your phone number 3. DMV has the doors locked so you wait in another line and when the woman behind the glass door waves you on, you slide the paperwork, your form and driver’s license under the door. 4. You can see the counter with all the employees. My paperwork was taken by a runner to one of them. 5. I then wait 30 minutes in a crowded hall. 6. They call my phone saying my camper is too old to register without an inspection. 7. I tell them this is my 4th camper and I’ve never needed an inspection. They hang up and I see my paperwork shift to another person. They come to the window and ask if I’m aware the title from TX says the camper is 64 years old. 8. I say yes and it goes to another person in the locked-up DMV. 9. Person #3 processes the paperwork (begrudgingly) and the runner comes to the locked door and says it will cost $60. I slide the money under the door. (no, I'm not kidding.) 10. She comes back with two forms that needs signed. I sign and slide them under the door. 11. Ten minutes later they slide processed paperwork and my license under the door to me.
I’m starting to wish instead of registering a 1956 camper I was transported back in time to 1956. I don’t think I like 2020.

If only you hadn't sold that "flux capacitor" on e-bay.

Congrats NC, you made it to hell and back and survived! What's the big deal with the age of the trailer? What makes that any different? The employees must have been trying to win the Crabby Person of the Day Award. Did you ever think it was going to hang up and you would have to go and get the inspection? Glad you were successful. How crowded was that hall? Were they honoring social distancing requirements? We have to wear masks now inside the stores and wait outside the grocery store to get in. Rod

I have no idea what the issue was with the age of the camper. With DMV you never know what rule they will make up on the spot but the added pressure on them now must be enormous.
A few months ago, who would have thought tax payers would be denied entry into a government building and forced to stand outside in Hazmat suits (with the employees locking themselves inside) with people sliding paperwork and money under the door? Unbelievable.
I feel for the people working at DMV. They have an outdated paper system in a pandemic. I'm impressed they even show up for work. And their attitudes was amazingly friendly.
I don't wear a mask or gloves but I wash often and don't touch my mouth or eyes. I shop for anybody afraid to go out, and for the food pantry. I'm not worried about getting the virus but being jammed in a hallway with 100 frightened people in hazmat gear was unnerving.
My wife says it shows how far I'll go to own a 1956 Shasta.

I'm trying to get the flux-capacitor I bought on ebay working now. 1956...here I come!

I'm surprised your DMV is still open! I've been riding around on a new-to-me motorcycle with the signed title and bill of sale and no license plate, hoping I don't get pulled over, because I can't get it transferred or registered.

So, while we are on stories at the DMV. My 16 year old son was due to take his behind the wheel drivers test on a Friday, recently. They stopped doing those tests on the day before... How do you think he felt? LOL. Cheers, Rod Timing is everything in life. He’s learning it the hard way. Ouch!
