Ok- I can find 'steel black pipe' at ACE for running under my trailer- is that the same as the 'black iron pipe' everyone mentions? Just want to make sure I am getting the right stuff! Thanks!

Yes, that is the same stuff I'm using. Regular 1/2 inch black pipe. Use YELLOW teflon tape and the goopy sealant on the threads only (not the female end).

Yellow tape and Rectorseal No 5 goop. I use both; wrap the tape, then goop. This is for pipe threads only. Flare fittings should NEVER have sealant or tape of any kind. The copper molds itself to the flare and sealants can interfere with that.
3/8 black iron is more than big enough for a vintage trailer.
Have fun with it; it's like putting Legos together...

Helpful hint, find someone who has a pipe cutter and threader you can borrow.
Alternatively, make a mock up of the piping with PVC and then copy that to black pipe, you can take the pieces to the store for cutting and threading.
