Greetings everyone, I picked up a 1965 Shasta Compact as a project camper and I am new to the forum. Its gonna have to sit until after the new year as I have a few family trips to Pigeon Forge, TN and Washington DC in our 2014 Jayco TT. I've been searching for a little project on my days off from the fire department so I won't drive my wife crazy. This Shasta looks very manageable. www.flickr.com/photos/128773879@N05/shares/t7eMu8

Congrats and welcome! Actually taking a bit of time to get to know your trailer before you get started will give you an opportunity to study it closely, see how it’s put together and plan any modifications you may want to make.
Again, welcome!

I stole your photos, hope ya don't mind...
First, it's correct for the year, the '65 had the spear stripe and the flattened toaster shape.
From the looks, it is almost completely there, on the exterior, including the jack stands. That by itself is really rare. It's showing the signs of typical wood rot, the sag over the bumper and the tape all around the base of the door hinge. This is absolutely to be expected.
It sure looks to me like a great find, and a worthy project.

Great detailed measurements Steve! Those are the kind of drawing folks need when rebuilding or wanting to start from scratch. Again, great job and thank you.

The frame looks so nice. Maybe it could be like one at ths car shows, they put mirrors on the ground To show the great detail

Already looks good, Steve, especially that shiny black frame.

A little more progress. I'm ready to start decking soon. Really like your ideas on the extra wood framing
