Hi Friends, Add your pictures of your ceiling supports to this thread. I was at a trailer friend's house as he has started working on a new trailer - a 1942 Silver Dome. It's one of those masonite trailers with sides of masonite and a one time canvas roof. It's even got a masonite belly pan that on a nearly 80 year old trailer was in very good condition. Anyway, the front part of the trailer floor was rotted from the front backward with some termites jumping in to help out. So, he decided to just raise the first 2/5 of the trailer roof just and inch or two so he could get access to the floor and the lowest parts of the wall studs. I saw his "dead man" and noted that it was not inside as others have done including myself. I have seen posts where people wanted to know what the "deadman" looked like. So, I figured why not just start a thread of people's roof supports. In the image below, he ran a 2 x 4 through the window frames and then built a vertical support and to keep those in check, he screwed in angle supports. He pointed out, he could have added a base to the triangle, but it was holding, so he left it alone. However, the exterior based "dead man" works best if the opposing windows are level with each other. Other more "modern" trailers had even front windows, but the rears could be at different levels.
Cheers, Rod
