So I've installed a new 7 pin connector w 8' harness and have the terminals installed in new Jbox. New 14g wire running to all new lights.
Question: since I need to run the green wire (running lights) to all lights (side markers, tail lights and licens plate), what would the best practice be to run these from the main wire? Daisy chain to each under the new skin, separate wire to each from primary lead wire or ?.
I'm not fond of any type of connection being made and then located under the skin if something should happen later.
Lastly, again, best practice: what type of mechanical connection be best? Crimp or solder / shrink wrap?

You are absolutely right about connections in the walls and under the skins, don't do it.
I run the tow wires under the trailer from the front J box. Sometimes you can install a 2nd J box in the back if you want to branch off from there. I use wire nuts inside the J boxes. My wires are solid (no connections) until they reach the light.
I also use wire nuts to connect at each light. There needs to be an open space to tuck the nuts into. The lights are mounted over the hole into surrounding wood. These connections are easily reached if repairs are necessary.
This is the back of the trailer with each tail framed to mount the light. Lots of room for the wiring.

Another good idea for Bargman 99s or Reflect O Lites (the big round ones) is to run the wires thru the light plate and make the connections inside the lens. This makes for a really easy way to test/rewire the light. The big lenses make it super easy.

I also use wing nuts to connect at each light. I think you mean WIRE nuts, instead of wing nuts. Not try to be rude but I kept trying to figure out how you were using a wing nut on electrical but didn't say anything. When I saw this photo I realized what you using was Wire Nuts. WIG NUT Wire Nut

well there, you learn something new every day. I always associate the term wing nuts with the metal ones shown before, and wire nuts with the plastic ones used in wiring.
