Hello all. I am wondering about the ball lock mechanism on my 62 Shasta. Often campers have a pin or something that locks them in either position, but I can't figure this one out. Can anyone help me out? Thanks!

Certainly. On the curbside of your hitch (side of the entry door) there's a hole directly behind the slide mechanism in which a pin or padlock can be placed when the slide is forward in the locked position. This will keep the slide in place and will not allow the mechanism to open off the ball.

This will keep the slide in place and will not allow the mechanism to open off the ball. Is it a certain size of pin or padlock? I have tried both and the locking mechanism still seems to open up off the ball. thanks!

The lever still will be able to be lifted up over the top of the ball. But, the lock will keep the slider from moving back and unlocking from the ball. This makes most folks nervous until realizing how the slide works.

It will slide freely either way with a pin or padlock installed. Sometimes if its in just the right position, the mechanism will seem to be locked, but with just a little movement you can open the tongue lock.

Just like you said the mechanism slides to open, but underneath it doesn’t actually move to release the ball if the pin is in place. Thanks!

Very glad to help. I wish I had had access to my photos, I have some that I took to answer this exact issue some time ago. Describing in words makes a lot more sense when you can see what is happening.

This is good to know,I went and found a bigger lock last time I towed because I could still pull the top back. Its nice to know that the bottom is still locked
