Good morning. We have installed our sink that I had sent off to Independence Porcelain to have re-enameled from the original brown to white. It turned out amazing. We also have a new two burner stove top that sits in a drop-in cover. The stove top we bought is white but the cover only came in black with a glass top (see pic below). I reached out to IP to get a quote to have the drop-in cover re-enameled white like our sink and it'll cost around $97 + shipping. Does anyone have suggestions on if this is the best route to go or would some other painting technique hold up? They have a three week lead time but we don't have any trips planned soon so that isn't an issue. The $97 doesn't seem bad to me but thought I'd check to see other's thoughts. Thanks, Martha. 78905n-stove by Martha Salata, on Flickr

Are you sure you need to have the inside white? Only asking because your lid will be closed unless your cooking and you will have cute pots on there or a kettle when open. As to the re-porcelain choice, I would do that over painting. Painting is most likely to chip near the heat elements and I believe white may turn brown near the heat even if it doesn't peel. I had all my parts done at Independence. Great price and a permanent finish.

Hi LadyW. Yes, it is driving me crazy that the lip all the way around is black and a lot of the back of the cover shows even though the glass top is closed. I think I am leaning toward sending it to IP. I know they do fabulous work. Thanks for your input.

I made a decision on my trailer that I would not make my decisions on cost, I would do it proper with no regrets. It’s taking longer but I’m really happy I have not compromised I will have this trailer a long time and do t want to be looking at something I wished I’d done different

I don't think I have ever owned a project no matter what I spent on it that a few years down the road I didn't wish I had done something different. I always see something new or learn a better way.

I know that mainly all that will be generally visible is about a 1/2" trim but it is one of the first things you see when you enter the trailer and if I don't change it, it'll drive me nuts every time I see it. We agreed to ship it to I.P. The small cost will be worth it to keep me happy

I don't think I have ever owned a project no matter what I spent on it that a few years down the road I didn't wish I had done something different. I always see something new or learn a better way. I actually have renovated this trailer thousands of times in my head from top to bottom. I make changes as I do that.. I'm counting those as my official regrets. Hopefully I'm getting it out of my system. LOL Being a designer helps as I am able to "see" things finished in my mind. My one concern is the systems in the trailer. I have decided to keep it really simple as it was originally without a hot water tank etc. Thats the one area I can see possible regrets, but I have tent camped a lot, and grew up at a cottage with outhouses and a water pump at the bottom of a steep hill, so somehow the simplicity of boiling a kettle and "roughing it" is what I associate with relaxation and vacations. I have a 2011 30 foot Jayco with all the bells and whistles and its honestly a lot of work dealing with the size, and all the systems etc. Hopefully I am making the right decision with this little escape pod.

Me also, but every-time I build something a few minutes after it is done someone comes up with a new or better idea so I change it or at least want.

The thing to do if you are going to keep it is never look at another trailer, catalog, or the internet. This way you won't see new ideas.

I love what we share here. So interesting and fun to discuss pros and cons. Why do we keep doing this? Because we want to try the next great thing...

Or maybe it's because we are nuts.
