Feeling mighty dim witted. I need to remove the original furnace and am trying to not destroy anything that I may want or someone else may be able to use. The outside vent is totally loose. The inside unit is loose. There is a loose 6 inch duct that contains a smaller duct that is connected to the external vent and furnace. For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to disconnect that smaller pipe. Before I break out the saw, I thought I would ask for help.

Don't cut anything up yet. I will dig mine out tomorrow and try to re-construct it. It is apart but I can't remember the trick to it.

On the one I recently removed when I unscrewed the out side cover it came completely apart.

Okay, here goes. Mine is mounted in the closet inside the door, on the right hand side at your feet walking in. The vent is mounted in the side wall on the curbside, just rearward of the door. Thus the vent is turned at a right angle to vent out. That bend is built in the furnace itself and the pipe is all straight out.  The vent is held to the wall with four screws, at the corners. They really are all that holds it together, besides the flange end of the exhaust pipe. The larger 6' pipe is just held in place by the flanges of the vent.  Most likely you are having problems with gunk of time, rust, and maybe even a teflon sealer or something of the sort, which may have been originally applied.   |

Thanks. My furnace is on the right when facing the back. Vent goes straight out to the road side. It sounds like it may be just stuck. I'll get a little more aggressive in trying to pull it out and hopefully the gunk of time will release.

THANK YOU!!! After some aggressive shaking and pulling, it is out. Guess I was being too girly with it when I wasn't sure how it was held in.

Nothing wrong with being girly...maybe with the exception of dealing with furnace vents. I know not wanting to damage anything though.

On the Suburban hot-air-blower furnaces, there are screws that hold the outer vent cover on the trailer, then when you pull that off there are two more screws inside that attach the two parts of the "exhaust pipe" together. Just in case someone is taking one apart and thinks they're being too girly when the pipe doesn't separate.
