My 1957 Deluxe was 19' and this one looks shorter. The interior appears to be the same size/layout. I believe this to be a forerunner of the Deluxe and think it's earlier than a 59. The 57 Deluxe had less of a ham shape, still rounded but not quite a ham. 57shastadeluxe.shutterfly.com/

That looks earlier than what was generally coined as the "Deluxe". The shape and the front windows are different from what I would expect. It is also difficult to tell form the one exterior photo, but it appears that it never was equipped with wings. The interior layout is (close to) identical to the '58 in my driveway. My understanding is the Airflyte and Deluxe were introduced as such in the '58 model year, were built with the push-out windows, until 1960, when both models were switched to the multi-panel jalousie windows and the Compact was added to the lineup then, also. These were the first appearances of the wings, and all three models sported them. I wonder if the years of manufacture got confused down through time. It might have been the ancestor just a couple years before the "Deluxe" actually hit the market, a 1900 perhaps. There were very subtle differences in the models when both were out at the same time. I am certainly no expert, and won't ever argue with anyone's documentation, but casually observing, I would guess the years are switched between the one in the ad and Vikx's photos. Again, that is just my generalization. By the way... $600?? Wow, another almost reasonable sale...

I'd say '57 or '56 on this one.

Wonder if it's one of a kind? Sort of a proto type??

The front window set and the shape screams 57... Shape changed in 58. And it has those solid front side windows. 57...

I agree, sure screams 57 to me... It's definitely not a Deluxe tho... Something else. Could it be a late 56, turning into a 57??

My wife never cared for the Deluxe model although I like the extra storage.
I've been searching online for another one like it...no luck.
I think the best guess has been it's a prototype.

It may have been, although I don't have research to prove it.
The 1400 and the 1500 existed through the mid-50's, so my guess is that it was a "1900" or perhaps the model 19 (not to be confused with Smith and Wesson's model 19...) and was the forerunner to the Deluxe. I am not sure when they started to build the 19-footer that became the Deluxe though, just a W-A-G.
