I bought a 1947 Westwood Coronado with no spare. I need to take a spare with me before towing it home. It has already been professionally towed 150 miles, so its current tires are sound. From what I have read, the original tires are 6.00 x 16, but I need to know the modern tire size to use for the spare and the bolt pattern for the steel wheel. 16" 5-bolt early Ford or? The ball size would also be helpful to know. Assuming that it's 2 5/16 for vintage travel trailers. First purchase and very first post. Father-daughter restoration project.

Welcome unpolire,
Sorry, I can't help with the tire size. Can you ask the seller to measure the lug pattern and go from that? A smaller wheel/tire would work for a spare.

Hi Friends, Dunno either, but I did a quick search and found this: fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=105409&showall=1 Also, if it's a 47, does it have the 3 piece rims that use an inner tube and a lock ring, I think it's called? I considered the 3 piece rims that came with my 55 Rod and Reel for about 5 minutes until I found out almost no one works on them. Just too dangerous unless you have a cage to work on them and I considered how hard it would be to have it repaired on a road trip if I did get a flat. I upgraded to current rims bought online and went with radials. Mine were 15' rims, btw. I left the 3 piece rims there with the seller and had new rims and tires drop shipped to the sellers address before I picked up the trailer. Here is how to measure the bolt pattern for anyone who doesn't know. www.etrailer.com/faq-wheel-bolt-pattern.aspxFinally, like Vikx said, maybe go with a smaller 15" wheel(s). Cheers, Rod

Also, if it's a 47, does it have the 3 piece rims that use an inner tube and a lock ring, I think it's called? “Split rims” is the term I’ve always known for these, and yes, very few people will still work with them due to the dangers. I personally know a man that had half of his face reconstructed because one of those blew apart on him, but I don’t think he had it inside the cage at the time.

Update, after bringing the trailer successfully home nearly 400 miles on my first trailer tow. The wheels were previously replaced with one-piece 16" 6-bolt Ford steel rims with hubcap clips, and were fitted with P225/75R16 Goodyear tires.
Three of six studs were missing on the left side of the trailer, all in a row, so the trailer had been professionally towed 150 miles with that wheel half secured! The right side had four of the six lug nuts intact and all studs. I went to a local NAPA store and purchased the correct studs and lug nuts for a 1947 Ford truck, then had the masterful staff at Modesto Trailer Repair in Modesto CA install them.
With the drum off we discovered like new brakes and all parts and wires present for the electrical magnetic system to function. With the max of 44 psi in the tires, the tow was flawless.
Wondering what the other connectors and controller are like that are needed to make my "new" trailer brakes work! Just have the two original wires at the hitch.

You'll need a 7 way cord and connector to operate the tow lights and brakes. It will accommodate all of the wires with ease. I usually place a 2 gang junction box near the tongue under the trailer to join the wiring. Here is a tutorial: vintagetrailertalk.freeforums.net/thread/421/7-tow-wiring

Unpolire,
Glad to hear you got the trailer home. Do you have any pictures of the trailer and of the retrieval? A story?
I hope you will share your progress.
Cheers,
Rod
