I have not bought 1/8 inch ash in a very long time and now I can't seem to find it anywhere and none of my retailers or wholesalers can find it either. Is there any left in the country anywhere without having to order a "unit"? A unit is 100 sheets or more.
Many of the Shastas and other trailers in the late 50s were being made with Ash because Birch was getting so hard to find. Now it's the other way around. Any help would be appreciated.

Larry Ash is no longer allowed to be transported in many areas do to the spread of the Emerald Ash Bore which is killing the ash trees off. So I would assume that is why it is not available in most places. Around here you can't even transport it as firewood.

Don't know maybe there is a higher demand or profit in 1/4" so what there is of it is going there. I really don't know just guessing.

I can't find anything in 1/8 inch. Finally found some at a lumber store in Minneapolis. Birch 4x8 sheet, 1/8 inch is $50 a sheet. Hoping to find a better deal. When I restored my 64 Shasta Compact I paid $15 a sheet. I guess I will just continue to call lumber stores in a 200 mile radius. Pretty frustrating. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Birch I can get all day long for $22 a sheet. I can also get 1/4 inch ash but that won't bend around the radius for the front and rear. Works ok for the walls though.

Ask for Door Skins. Many lumber yards carry birch and mahogany. Also, you might try a specialty plywood store. Windsor plywood sells 1/8 "bendy" ply in poplar and birch as well as regular non bendy 1/8 sheets. Good luck!
Mobile, the Ash I found is $70 per 4 x 8 sheet; it's 3/16" thick, only a snip more than 1/8.

The spell bot liked it!

Yes, I think Radii is plural, LOL...
The Ash is available in Washington State, I believe my local lumber yard gets it from Windsor plywood... Didn't buy the Ash, can you spell CHEAPSKATE?? I doubt 3/16 would curve unless steamed?

I have a piece of ash large enough to make some comparisons. I'm going to see how Oak looks next to it. It goes behind the bed anyways so very little of it actually shows. I need 7 sheets to do what I want.

Since my local lumber yard has been an excellent source for most of my needs I asked them to see if they could locate some 1/8th inch Ash. They checked with a couple of there better sources and no luck. Can get 1/4" but that is it. Who knew.

From what I have found out, 1/8 inch is just not popular enough anymore for anyone to carry. I am going down to my specialty lumber yard tomorrow or Monday to see how well Oak matches up with Ash. I have a piece of un finished ash left over from a million years ago and am taking a piece from the trailer also. I think I'm going to have to work some magic here.
Thanks for the effort Bill.

Larry will the oak soak up the finish different than the ash causing a different finished color. Just asking don't know.

I don't know. That's why it's going to be an experiment. I have some ash and I'm going to give it a shot. Let's see what happens? I've also thought about just completely replacing the interior paneling in this trailer with birch. Depends on the wishes of the owners but it sounds like they don't want a rebuilt trailer. They want it as original as possible and they even like the signs of wear and tear and being used. I asked them well why are we restoring it at all? LOL... So we are fixing all the rotted and broken parts and shining up the good parts and replacing the bad parts and upgrading some of the creature comforts like a brand new fridge. The paneling that absolutely must be replaced will not show that much because the worst panel is the rear. So let's see what happens and I will keep you all informed with photos and vids on how it works out because folks! YOU CAN NOT GET 1/8 Inch ASH anymore. That's it. Another note.... I heard I could get some paper thin veneer made from ash. ? Ideas?

I think the oak will work if it's light enough. Even birch would work behind the bed...
Veneer isn't bad but a lot of work for behind the bed... A friend of mine told me recently that the first veneer they did bubbled. The 2nd time, they used lacquer right away and it was fine. Something to do with it not being sealed and absorbing moisture from the air.
