I'm almost finished with my camper, minus some little things here and there that I'll work on over the winter. I plan to do a photo dump some day coming up. Here's a cheeky video I made doing one of the most satisfying part of the rebuild - the paint reveal! youtu.be/L5yLDVjvlhM

Well, we're taking our Comet out camping for the first time this weekend! The weather in MN is supposed to be in the 60s and 70's and the fall leaves are in peak color. I am roughly finished with this overhaul, 3 years later, lol. We did not do a perfect job and there are definitely some imperfections but overall I am super happy with it. I certainly learned a lot along the way with many thanks going to the folks on this forum. I was able to get this insured at an "agreed upon value" of over $18,000 for $650/year. I think the valuation is a bit high but I'll take it if someone rearends me while she's in tow. There are several things I need to tinker with like cleaning up the 12V closet, making false walls to hide the wiring, and finishing up the drinking water setup. I still need to paint the wheels and the propane tank, and run the propane lines to the camper. I only have a Wave heater for propane so I'm still undecided on where to place it. Here's a few pics: Comet by nate kastle, on Flickr Comet by nate kastle, on Flickr Comet by nate kastle, on Flickr Comet by nate kastle, on Flickr Comet by nate kastle, on Flickr Comet by nate kastle, on Flickr Notice the leak! Brand new Delta faucet leaks, lol. Have new seals on the way. Untitled by nate kastle, on Flickr I live on a busy street so this is how the Comet gets turned around.

I think the valuation is a bit high but I'll take it if someone rearends me while she Nice job, not many trailers ever get completely done. Just a FYI on your agreed value insurance policy. You are getting taken BIG TIME in my opinion. Are you certain it's a Agreed Value policy, and not a similar sounding Stated Value policy (which is completely different)? "Agreed Upon Value" is not a insurance company term for a type of policy. Which is why I asked if it might be a Stated Value. You can State a Value, the insurance company will gladly take your premium money, but they will still not use that value number if you have a large loss. Ask Vikx. I have a restored trailer that has been professionally appraised at $78,500., and has been fully insured with an Agreed Value policy (it requires a professional appraisal first). It has the optional camp site liability rider to insure me for open house accidents, and has a $500 comprehensive deductible. My annual policy cost is just over $400/year. A friend of mine has his trailer appraised for around $20K. His annual policy through the same broker and insurance company is around $300 per year. The appraised amount does not change the premium as much as you might think is what I learned. John

John, I got an appraisal based on recommendations on a thread on this site. They were well aware of insuring vintage trailers and assured me of the “agreed upon value” policy. If I could pay less for premiums I’d be glad to! Would you share who your appraiser and insurer are? My trailer was appraised by Polk Associates and insured by Progressive through Farm and City Insurance. It comes with roadside assistance, vacation insurance, and a $500 deductible. I thought it was a fair deal but I’m a novice here. Again, I’d love to pay less! Perhaps I can re-evaluate in the spring. If a tree fell on my trailer I’d feel pretty good coming away with $18K.

Both of my examples are the same. James Polk Appraisals FCIS (Farm City Insurance Services) in Iowa Progressive is the underwriter for the policies. $500 deductibles Sounds like you have added the Roadside, and Vacation coverage. I think you should take a look at your policy and check why yours is more than "double the cost" for a similar trailer. I carry the AAA RV roadside coverage which covers all of my vehicles, motorcycles, hot rods, tow vehicle, home, and basically everything except my restored trailers because they refuse to offer Agreed Value for Travel Trailers.
