Recently purchased 1983 Shasta. Went to get title in my name and turns out VIN was only 15 characters. Since it's an 83 it needs 17. Took some steel wool and nail polish remover to VIN tag (lol, all I had laying around at the time) and now the VIN shows up nice and clear with 17 characters. Hopefully won't be an issue getting the updated title. Out of curiosity, would anyone be able to run the VIN through the Shasta Database? Would love to know if the info I was given is accurate and more info would be great too. VIN: 1TS2A4465D1004940
So far I can't find anything online regarding that VIN.

Hi!
Congrats on your new purchase.
Many of the VINs for the Shasta's I would guess are from decades earlier, so it might make deciphering the VIN more difficult. I am also guessing those earlier VINs were shorter and thus easier to decipher.
I am sure someone with more Shasta knowledge will enlighten us.
Cheers,
Rod

In 1975, the original Shasta was sold out, the name bought by Coachmen. I am pretty sure that the VIN sequence did not follow from one manufacturer to the next, I am not sure of a kept record of them past the sale.
You might try referencing through Tin Can Tourists, or perhaps any special groups that specialize in the older ('70-s to '80-s) Coachmen models.

LHuff: I just sold an '82 Shasta to a guy out of state and they need to do the usual VIN verification to get it titled in that state and he cannot locate the VIN. I never bothered to locate it since I titled it in the same state as I bought it but I would like to help direct him to the right location. Can you please let me know where your VIN is located on your '83? I am thinking they may have moved it from the old location from the 60s and 70s. Thanks a bunch.

Thomas- 2bits: My VIN appears on the tongue, passenger side. Many layers of paint were on top so it simply looked like a tag with some bumps on it. Apparently some of the older models have the VIN on the driver side of the tongue kind of underneath the beam.

lhuff3Based on the Shasta vin# info that I have collected thus far, the vin# that you listed is of a 1981 Shasta. This being said, can I assume that the seller told you it was a 1983 Shasta, since you are trying to get a title for it? Do you know which model you have? Again, based on what little vin# info I have on the Coachmen built Shasta's, Shasta Friendship's were the main ones being produced. Friendship 1400's and Friendship 1500's were available between 1978 or so through 1981 or so. Just curious about the model.

Ross, So far from the research I've done on the internet comparing photos etc I believe she's a Shasta Friendship 15. The previous owner seems pretty confident that it's an 83 but he didn't have the vin right so you never know...thank you for the input so far! Also, I'd be happy to post some photos. Is there a way to do so without a link to another website?
Thomas-2bits: No problem! Happy to help where I can! If you discover the vin tag and it was anything like mine then nail polish remover and a soft steel wool did a great job and was pretty effortless.
