It's best to use a brass wire brush or drill attachment to help remove the years of paint. This will help reveal the vin#. If you happen to have a Shasta, I can tell you the year it was produced, just need to get the actual vin#.
Good luck.

I'm looking at purchasing a Shasta w/Bill of sale, no title. The vin is V24254. Can you tell me the year? I'm thinking '65-'67. Keith

It's not a Shasta. Shasta vin#'s don't have RL as a prefix. I would guess that the 451 would be the production run and the 55 would be the year....kinda like the way Serro Scotty vin#'s read. So, if this correct, your camper would be the 451 camper produced in 1955.
Again, this is just my guess.

Thanks Zero A South Carolina-built Shasta would have had a letter "S" prefix in front of the numbers. It may still be buried in paint, or perhaps the "8" is actually the "S". Not sure much more than that, except that the South Carolina plant was not in operation as many years as the other plants. It should be a mid-60' s model, guessing based on that.

I do think that it is S 2420. The mirror on the bathroom. Was labeled August 1967. So at least after 1967. The South Carolina plant went online on 1969 based on my research. So I'm thinking 1969.

You are correct on when the South Carolina plant "started producing" Shasta's, as far as reading the same date. The plant didn't officially start until 1969 and making it the 6th Shasta manufacturing plant, but I have Shasta vin's from the South Carolina plant that date back to 1966....10 vin's from 1966, 16 vin's from 1967 and 11 vin's from 1968.....so, not sure why they didn't officially open until 1969, could be that the original article got the date wrong....maybe?

I believe you are probably correct about the wrong date, Ross . For some reason, I'm believing they closed the plant down in 1969. One of the reasons is the Zipper trailers. They were started by a group of disgruntled workers from the Columbia Shasta plant. The ones I have seen photos of seem to be from 1965 to about 1967... Zipper was not around for that long (and I sure would love to get my hands on one of them!). The two models I've seen were almost twin to the canned-ham Compact and Airflyte models. This would suggest the Shasta plant would have been in production prior to the change to the "toasters" in the mid-60's. It's all guessing, I don't have my research all in a row to prove anything.

The South Carolina plant really doesn't make much sense.......I have vin's from 1966 to 1976. Very strange.

I would appreciate any info on it you have. thanks. If this isnt the right spot to ask, just email me and let me know where to go. Thanks. I have the VIN number.
It is: V-21472
That is the number on the tongue. It is also the only number I can find.

Finally found the serial number on my '58 Aloha. Just 4 digits no letters. So how do we decode it? Any clues to share?
