Last weekend, Costco had car covers on sale for around $25 in small, medium and large. Anyone try a large size car cover instead of a tarp for winterizing? Should be much better on the finish and come with ties to secure it.

Not a chance. No surer way to damage a car or trailer than trying to winterize it with a car cover. Blistered paint and corrosion awaits- I've seen the results firsthand too many times. Trapped moisture underneath is the culprit.
The only covers I'd even begin to consider are non-woven breathable (Kimberly Clark Evolution 4 and the like), which aren't exactly cheap and aren't designed to keep your vehicle dry in any case. Covers are designed for indoor use and/or protection from tree sap, dust, and the like, not wind, rain, and snow.
