Hi ya'll, just wanted to say hi,and see if I anyone knew how to read a serial number. It starts out with an S then 1748. The camper is a 1967 Shasta and I'm not sure but I think it's a 1500. The Wife said I could buy one only if it has wings, well after digging it out of the woods and getting it home , we scrubbed it down to see how bad it really was. Overall, not to shabby. It does have the usual rot in the corners, and in the back under the window and a few more places, but it is going to be rescued. I haven't seen many posts with 1967's in them except maybe compacts, and didn't know if it may be kinda rare like the 57 chevy. Anyhow we got it and hopefully we can get it up and going again. I've checked most of the forum out and it seems like I already know most of you, and hope to get some great ideas on getting the rebuild started.

I have a 68 1500 and it was a fairly popular model there seems to be several around. Mine had severe rot across the rear and the left rear corner plus the 1"x2"s that support the walls all the way around were rotted from the bottom up, which seems to be fairly common. They are a nice trailer for two people as they are only 78" inches wide and fairly light making them easier to tow than the larger models. They actually were designed to sleep 5 or 6 but that would be either small people or very crowded. As far as the rebuild goes soup posts a lot of pictures showing many good ways to repair them. and mobiletech has a web site called canned ham that has some very informative videos on trailers that would allow you to fix most anything. MAKE SURE THAT YOU CAN GET A CLEAR TITLE IF YOU DON"T ALREADY H AVE ONE BEFORE YOU SPEND A DIME ON IT.

I've watched most of mobiltecs rebuild on you-tube and he makes it look so simple. I have taken the skin off most of it and replaced most of the rotted out stuff. and now working my way around to the other side. It's just the right size for me and the wife

Thanks ya'll, I did get a clear title when we bought the Shasta. The gentleman we bought it from was real nice and after talking for awhile, he went and got the title for me.

Welcome Oldtimer! Glad you were able to get a title. Here in CA it can be very expensive to register a trailer without a title now. In some cases it is impossible and the State is the one who made it that way. Here you can not non-op a trailer so when people get tired of paying ridiculous amounts of money to register a trailer they are using for storage and haven't had on the road for the last 10 years, the only way out of it is to say on paper that it has been junked. That can end up being an impossible task to re-register. I know a guy with a 64 18ft SC Shasta in really nice shape and it is impossible to register it in California now and yet there is nothing at all wrong with it.

Hey Mobiltec, I can relate to that, when the wife and I was in Yuma last year, we had to buy a utility trailer from Harbor Freight to bring all our stuff home in, (you know, stuff you acquire while traveling)Well the DMV had us do this and that to it even though it was new, before i could even get a temp tag. cause i didn't want to reg. it in AZ. they made us put mud flaps on it cause the fenders was an inch above the required height. But after doing all they said,we got the temp tag, and now it's reg. in NC. I can't believe all the odd ball rules and reg the states have.. Anyhow, I enjoyed watching the rebuilds you did on you-tube. I learned a lot..this is a GREAT forum to pick up information on and others to share.
