I haven't used the HF one, but.......
IMO, I don't trust china steel! I have a friend who's leaf springs on their HF trailer frame broke and have heard of others that had the same thing happen. Not sure if the manufacture's were using the wrong kind of steel or were using whatever they had around.....
I know that you are asking about WDH's not springs, etc....
I only buy trailer hitches, couplers, axles, springs, etc from reputable companies that state "Made In the USA".
Just wanted to share my thoughts.

Even traditional high quality brands like Reece make all of their stuff in China now. My Tacoma was built in the US and the quality is terrible, so I don't think blanket statements apply anymore. In the US, it's a race to the bottom to try and meet overseas pricing while simultaneous funding bloated CEO salary packages. At the same time, quality of Chinese products is getting better to the point where outsourcing is moving to other parts of the world to find lower cost of goods.

I would address the truck springs before trying a weight distribution hitch. Our little trailers are so light weight there should be no need for a WDH. I'd look into heavier duty shocks first, then consider air bags and lastly new springs before a WDH. I installed air bags on our 2005 Toyota Sienna and it really stiffened up the back end for towing.

Thanks Greg. I don't have much towing experience outside of a 72 Wagoneer and that could tow a house. I already replaced the shocks with Bilstein 5100s and I like the idea of the $30 sway bar for passing Semis and some $60 Hellwig helper springs to stiffen up my soft springs.

Make certain you have at least 10% of your LOADED weight on the hitch and that your tires both trailer and truck are inflated to there max load pressure to help control sway.

Thanks Bill...I don't have any sway. I have a lot of up and down motion that I believe is caused by my weak rear springs. I didn't weigh the trailer, but it's very small and can't be much more than 2000lbs and we definitely had 200lbs+ on the tongue as it took both the wife and I to lift it recently (trust me, she's strong).

Does your tow vehicle use rear coil springs? They might make air bags that fit inside them to boost load capacity. Nice thing is they are adjustable.

I personally beef up my springs to handle load, but if you don't want a harsh ride when empty then I would go with air shocks or bags.
