I love this camper and the work your doing. Hey mobiltec, We just had snowflakes falling outside that looked the size of tea cup saucers! Loki was freeking out. He's never seen snow before and 1 flake would take his whole face out at once. LOL He was getting PO'd and running around like crazy. I would love to see video or photos of those flakes... LOL, well more like the size of a dollar ripped in half. Those were only falling a couple mins. and I didn't get my camera in time. Thunder Snow!

We had what was called "Thunder Snow" here once. Little tiny snow balls perfectly round and light as a feather about the size of nickles. I had never seen it before and asked a weather man what it was and he said it was Thunder Snow.

Wish we could have seen that snow, mobiltec, it sounds so cool. (pun intended) Did it come with the thunder? We've never been in a snowstorm accompanied by thunder. The only thing we've heard is lots of wind and snow blowing sideways. But mostly it's just quiet.

It's only happened here that one time since I arrived in the area. Never seen it anywhere else either. Dr. George Fishbeck is the one who explained it to me. There was a regular thunder storm just like the ones we usually have out here in the summer months. Except that it did this instead of the usual hail.

Oh heavens, Dr George Fischbeck! What a delightful man. He must be over 90 by now... if he's still alive. I think he was originally a science teacher - can you imagine how much fun THAT would have been? I'm totally envious of your thundersnow experience. We spent hundreds of weekends up above Idyllwild when I was a kid, lots of thunderstorms, hail, and even snow, but didn't get the thundersnow. We get so few thunderstorms here in the Pacific NW, that the chance of it happening in the winter hovers near zero. About the same chance as a sunny day in March. Or February. Or June....

We get thunder snow at least 1 a year in Colorado. Usually in the spring but I remember it happens in January before.

Lake effect snow isn't special, just deep. The wife and I was in a snow storm with thunder and lightening in December of 65 but it was just regular snow. It some what frighten us as we had never seen it before. We was on I70 in Ohio and the cars were pulling over and stopping because no one knew what was going on.

I'm glad you all approve of my hack carpentry an heavy equipment assisted metal fabrication. Haha Speaking of rare weather events we had some R-tec foam flurries in the garage today! I got the rotten floor joists rebuilt with yellow cedar which I had left over from another project. Then I sheeted it with an acx belly and acx subfloor(in the front where it was rotten). The yellow cedar shouldn't rot anytime soon and the acx should hold up to moisture. I was thinking of using bituthane sheet on the bottom since it's too cold in the shop to paint. This should be a toasty warm floor. Belly pan

I get pretty fed up with the cold here. Especially the eight months of winter but Im totally blown away by the scenery. This photo was taken this morning a little after sunrise (about 10:00) at a beach on Resurrection bay. We were at the beach to get sand to sprinkle on our driveway which was starting to resemble more of a glacier than a driveway.

Wow! Resurrection Bay! That is truly beautiful. The opening of the Hunt for Red October was filmed there, right? I didn't realize you live in Alaska. I'll quit complaining about our long cold winters now or I should. My son and I are driving to Alaska summer of 2015 with a few other camping buddies.

Im thinking my next long road trip is going to be Alaska. I need to go to Spokane Valley anyway. And I haven't been to Alberta Canada for a life time. Now you guys have me thinking? Caravan the caravans?

I would love to go to Alaska but that is a lot of fuel from here. But someday if the boss ever gets healthy enough and I am still alive I might make it. I have been in every State in the lower 48 but three so need to see those and Alaska yet.

Sure come on up! We have huge campground here right on the beach. In '64 we had an earthquake and tsunami that leveled the waterfront. Nobody builds there instead they turned the water front into a campground and all the rv'ers line their $100,000 rvs up along the beach. The locals joke that we are using them as a seawall or breakwater for the next tsunami. Now that I know how these are built I realize the joke is on us. Since your coming anyway could you pick up a roof skin, front skin, steel wheels a few cheeseburgers and baby moon hub caps for me? I quess The Hunt For Red October was filmed here. I didnt know that. I do know that if Red October was as water tight and well built as my new trailer belly then Sean Connery would still be hiding out under the pacific. I'm not sure if building to submarine standards is a good thing in trailer restorations but I swear my new years resolution will be not to add anymore weight to the trailer and maybe loose a few pounds myself. My final floor construction is 3/8 acx on top of 1 1/2" joists with a 1/2 acx belly skin that is sealed with bituthane. I wrapped the bituthane up around the edges of the floor so if water makes it's way down the inside of the walls it should stay out of the floor. The cavity if filled with 1 1/2" r-tec foam insulation. Some of those dimensions seem a little backwards but that's the dimensions of what was there to begin with so I matched that. I decided to use bituthane because it will stick in the cold. I think a painted on product might be cheaper and would breath a little but nothing would actually dry in the garage.
