Were the rear bumpers used to store some type of water hose? They guy I bought my 68 StarFlyte from mentioned something about it. I have some rust on the outer end of mine and was going to replace it (4" x 4" square tube). I'd like to keep it original looking. I'd just need to track down on of the rubber end caps. Does anyone have a photo of what is actually stored inside it, if anything? I will probably have lots of questions in the next month or so, so get ready 😊 Here is my current bumper 20170622_174248 by Bill, on Flickr

You got it, it is for storing the hose for draining the black water tank.

The bumper is available as are the end caps. Try your local RV store.

I saw an ad on craigslist locally once, for replacing the bumper with 4" aluminum square tube. seemed like a good, and simple, idea. Lightweight and sturdy, and standard sized, so end caps should fit. You might try a local metal fabricator for that idea. I found an original endcap in a drawer in my 16SC. They are not available anywhere that I have ever seen. There are replacements available at the usual outlets, including local RV shops. I painted with hammered gold rustoleum, and it looks like this. The rough appearance is actually the texture of the old rubber surface, not the paint.

The bumper is available as are the end caps. Try your local RV store. I didnt have much luck finding a 4x4 steel storage bumper, so I called up Metal Supermarkets, which has a place local to me. For the 4 x 4 x8' 14 ga is $74.20. I found cheaper online, but shipping kills that. At least with this, I can go pick it up. I'll just need to track down the end caps
