My son and I took my 1962 Shasta Compact hunting this fall , the propane lamp on the wall kept the trailer at 60 degrees with it 32 degrees outside, mantel held up good on the dirt roads in the forest, I purchased the Coleman brand and the seem to work well. Did keep it on all nite one evening , just cracked a window for some fresh air, during the day it was a great heat source in a 10 ft trailer .I say keep it installed, maintain it and your golden! How do the gas lights work? Turn on the gas or what?
I have a 1962 Go lite trailer.

First be SURE all the parts and pieces are present. Any new mantle needs to be "burned in". It turns sort of ashy colored. Turn on the gas and light the mantle. It should have a nice glow. If there are flames, turn it OFF. gas-lights.com/pdf/humphrey-gas-light-manual.pdf
