I've tried searching this thread for some guidelines, but maybe I'm not using the right words. Here's the question: I just bought (oh, help me) another trailer. This one sits closer to the ground than any of my others, and the drop on my hitch is not enough. How should the trailer tow? Level? A little high in front? How do I determine which adapter I need to buy for the truck? Is it as simple as measuring the point at which the trailer will be level? OK, more than one question, but these adapters aren't inexpensive and I have to travel 50 miles to get one, so I'd like the right information.

I'm far from an expert, but I think level after the weight is on the hitch is ideal. I've heard some people like it slightly lower at the hitch to compensate for the low rear. I have to admit, I've scraped the rear pulling in to a parking lot more than once.
If you lower the camper on any hitch you will get a sense of how far the weight will lower the tow vehicle rear suspension. Then you have to decide if you need a hitch extender to keep the tow vehicle from bumping the camper on sharp turns.

If you pull multiple trailers why not invest in an adjustable height hitch adapter for your vehicle then you can move it up or down as needed. Try to keep the trailer and the vehicle as level as possible for best results.

Thanks for the suggestion, bigbill. I have an older "adjustable" hitch ball mount that takes two 1" wrenches, a vise, a blacksmith and two helpers to adjust, so I hadn't considered it. I find that the modern one is a fine thing and will work for both my Shasta and the teardrop I bought to use until I get the Shasta finished. I love the folks on this forum!
