Hi there, Getting the Metzendorf decked out for camping this season. I have a Smokey the Bear comic book along with some small pinup matchbook covers (fishing, camping) that I'd like to frame up and hand in the camper. The problem is that I want to put them in frames that DON'T have glass - what does everyone use?? I thought the cheaper the frame, the more likely it would be plastic but even the ones at the dollar store are glass. Help?

Hmm, that didn't occur to us when we put a 1940s travel trailer postcard in a frame and hung it in Hamlet

You could replace the glass with the right thickness plexi.

If you cant get plexi, then if it was me I would go to an office supply place and see if you can buy an acrylic stand that can be cut down. (You know the ones they hang on the walls.) You should be able to find some plastic facing though somewhere. I don't know what to call it either, but sometimes I have bought does shirts for my husband and they come in a plastic rectangular box. That type of plastic should double as a glass.

I'm thinking of getting some plexiglass custom cut for the large pinup (an old calendar salesman sample), but I'll absolutely keep a lookout for something to repurpose for "framing" the smaller items.

I used small wood framed cork board, with small push pins to hold my vintage camping postcards and small vintage travel pennants, and etc. This worked real well for me.

Home Depot carries various-sized pieces of plexi and lexan in the Millworks dept., I think the smallest is a foot square. Lexan doesn't yellow like plexi does, so if you can find it, get it. You can score-and-snap cut it.

Thanks, Rod
