As I toiled away hand rubbing the shellac on the umpteenth birch wood panel, I wondered...... What if I re-built a trailer like an unpainted piece of furniture, totally undecorated, but dry, rot free and road ready. It would be free of the constraints of period correct, or original. No hunting for the right light fixture, cabinet knob or gas/electric fridge etc!
It would have 1/8" masonite walls and ceiling ($4.65 a sheet!!). ( big cost and labor savings) Cute Big box vinyl floor. No Gas what so ever. No onboard water, no sink. No real stove or oven. No built in heater. It would be wired for interior lights and bare bulbs, have a built in electric fridge, microwave and an electric hot plate and some foam for cushions that can be covered by the owner. Outside skin could be base coated (rolled on?). I would not worry about period correct j rail or teardrop lights etc etc.... The offering would be a trailer with documented rot removal, that is now has good dry bones and is a clean slate for complete, total and utter Glampification. It would compete in the same price range as the Glamped out trailers that are ready to implode at 60 mph. The owner can make it their own and hang that chandelier, chalk paint a wall, cover the cushions with a cartoon camper print, hang lace everywhere and on and on!
The goal would be to keep the acquisition and build cost down to around 3k and offer for $6k? (Im looking for tool money, not a salary) Could there be a market for this? I have a candidate in my yard right now that I bought for $250.

I would think making it solid and safe would be even cheaper than that. I think I only have about 3k into my birch interior. Only problem I see is most glampers are not well educated enough on how rotten a trailer could be, so they may not value your hard work enough to pay a premium over pink rolling rot.

Too funny but true So your thinking no market for it? My wife bought our first vintage camper at auction over 10 years ago. Thankfully, it was not a Glamper and was a solid trailer.....but when we saw it in person I was underneath it and she was examining the sewing on the cushions. I would hope 10% of the potential buyers would be or could be educated enough to pay for that security.

You could do a great marketing camping showing a trailer with skirts pulled up next to a your new model. I just think though, that people want ridges, stoves and many other items that cost $$ and are standard on a lot of these trailers. But some people will want the plain jane model, if the price is right. market to the minimalist community..

I would give them the "I'm afraid of propane" option that includes Non vintage: electric dorm fridge, hot plate, microwave.....

An interesting idea.
"The owner can make it their own..."
Unfortunately camper ads that say this are usually selling for $1000. Will people pay $6000 when they can get a rot job, painted, caulked, including a kitchen and heat for less?
To make real money, roll the $250 camper and ask $1500. Ugg!
I think the key to making any money is finding campers with good skin. New skin is a profit killer.

Another aspect to add onto Your "HandKey Special" would be to also offer to glamp it up to their specs, have them write a list of everything they want, You get the cash in hand then glampumup till they cant be glamped any more. LOL At a great profit I must add. LOL

The skin is a problem with my Glamp candidate
And oh my gosh, I'm ok with providing the camper version of a giant ready to paint craft project but please don't make me participate in the glampification! Not my forte'!

Not my forte'! How about just using galvanized corrugated steel for siding, give You an opportunity to use some real silicone to seal the overlaps ? Well, just thought as long as it is getting sheetrocked that the corrugated steel`d be cheap, compared to regular siding and it`d all sort of fit a glampers delight. LOL

Glamping, and the art there of, is a hobby all in itself. There are some nice set ups in the bigger rallies all decked out with all the mid-century modern garb of the day. It's like stepping back in time... When done well and not to hide things it can be a real treat to experience. My friends Bob and Cindy Ross are about as good at it as you can get...

Re: the tricked out blue and white one Looks nice but I can't fathom having to pack up all that extra stuff all the time ... Just having to put away our camp chairs, table, wheel chocks, etc., is enough for me.
