I seem to be confused. I believe Ross is telling me that I have a 1500 shasta that was made in 54. I also read that shasta only made the 1500 with this serial number c3669 would also be a 1500. I know it is only 6.5 feet wide so it must be 1500 but then again the specs I see for 1500s may not old enough to match. I also think I have seen a 54 in a museum that says it is a 1400. I have to believe Ross has it right because after reading much on this website he is the expert. So if it was registered in 1955 but made in 54 and the serial number says 54 and I am attempting to get a title for it what should I be telling the DMV? IMGP1390-2 by Tom Ress, on Flickr

If DMV has no way of checking ite registration through the serial numbers, it would then be Your choice. back then, a unit was built and sent out to the dealer and the dealer then sent in the paperwork to get the title for the state that it went to the original owner in and in the year it was registered. Even though the S.N. says it is a 54 and it actually is a 54, but then it was not sold until 55, so that is the year the title would say.

Hey Tom,
I just go by what the database is showing/telling me, in regards to production runs for certain years and certain plants.
What is the overall length of your Shasta, tongue to bumper?
Also, Was your Shasta ever painted? It looks as though it never was. If it never was painted, you have a Silverside, which were produced in 1954 and 1955 at the Van Nuys plant.

I have old cars as well that show the wrong year because of the issue with being sold in a different year then when it first hit the lot.
I will have to measure when I get it from up north. The only doc I have is one that says it is 12' long. It was never painted from what I can see. I thought I saw some paint under the j channel but it was something else but all the screws are silver, door jams look to be silver still as well. When I take it apart the truth will be told.
Also when you say from tongue to bumper (doesn't have a bumper) you must mean the bottom of the frame or do you mean the longest point of the ( arch in the back.

Total length of the trailer is tip of the tongue to the longest portion in the back. If no bumper, I guess that would be butt to tip of tongue...

Vikx is correct on measuring.
The 1400 model is about 13' 8" in overall length. The 1500 model is about 14' 8" in overall length.
As for the Silverside models, yes they are rare. Scotty produced Silverside Sportsman models early on in production. It may have been that Scotty was trying to copy on the Silverside (don't quote me on this), just as they did when they were adding "wings" to their Sportsman models. They were using the wheel well cutouts as the wings. Shasta made sure to stop Scotty from continuing the use of wings on their trailers.

I did not put it together that the wings were the cut outs from the wheel wells.
