Hi everyone. I recently purchased my shasta & like everyone else I'm discovering all I can about them. After watching hours of video (thank you Larry), reading all I can & checking out numerous blogs, I still have a few unanswered questions. With the huge front window I have 2 jalousies in the middle & 2 solid pieces on the outside of it. One of the solid windows is broken & needs to be replaced, what are they sealed in with? I need to order from VTS to get all the other things I have on the list for windows & would like to order it all in one shot, so I have it on hand when I pull them to redo all of them. I'm assuming the main outer frame is with putty tape, but it is hard to tell what was used on the inner ones. Also, the screws...I know I need hundreds of them #6 3/4" pan heads, but should I use stainless or not? The guy at House of Bolts told me that stainless sometimes reacts with other metals, but didn't know if aluminum was one of them or not. One more thing does it matter if I order a door handle that is a L-66 or L-66 A1? I've seen both online & am not sure if either will work. Apparently, there are few SC's out there & I want to do this right the first time Thank you all for your inspiration & help, I love the new site by the way.

Thank you, I ordered the tape today & found a local source for the screws at $6/100. Now hopefully I can get something done before winter comes to call.

Just keep in mind that if you use stainless anywhere on the aluminum skin that the stainless will not hold paint.

I buy the same screws the factory used from my local RV dealer they have to order them and they cost less than $20.00 for a box of 500. #8 x 3/4" The weird thing is if you can use #8 x 1" they are cheaper.

Thanks. Hey Larry what type would you recommend? I know they had zinc ones there also.

Thanks. Hey Larry what type would you recommend? I know they had zinc ones there also. I use the regular shiny steel ones from ACE Hardware. 100 for $4.69. I have never used stainless steel on anything but stainless steel like the quilted stuff I use on my back splashes over the counter top and stove. And there I use philips round heads. Using stainless on window frames and J rail might be a better way to go if you aren't going to paint the frames and J rail though. Because the others will rust over time. So outside I would think that anything that is not going to be painted could work out great with stainless. The 59 I'm working on now is going to have unpainted J Rail so I will probably go with stainless myself. By the way. Some people will start getting all upset when they hear about dissimilar metals being used. Well that's just too bad. You have an aluminum body touching a steel frame in some places and you have steel screws holding in aluminum to wood in some places. This is not the space shuttle and lives do not depend on it being perfect in every way. They were built with steel screws and lasted all this time. You can restore with steel screws and then your grand kids can mess with it after you are gone.

Ugh, I'd never use aluminum screws. Way too weak.

I didn't even know they made aluminum screws. I always thought aluminum screws were called rivets...

I wonder what those dissimilar-metals-haters would use to attach the skin...
