I recently made an order to VTS for repair parts as I am rebuilding the 3 Jolousie windows in my 61 Compact. They had all of the parts I needed with the exception of the retainer pads. I am not really in a big sweat about needing them but did not want to wait until the last minute so I went in search of an alternative. I found an excellent one. My local ACE store handles a multitude of small pads to be used for any number of things. I choose the Vinyl ones in the following picture and they work great. They were out of stock for the 3/8 size so I purchased the 1/2 inch and cut them down with my hollow core punch. (Sometimes I just can't wait). Anyway, I am passing this info along. By the way, I got an email from VTS today saying they were now in stock!!!!!!!

LOL that just figures eh? By the way, not sure if you knew or not but you get the pads from VTS in one round stick piece of rubber. You slice the pieces off of it like slicing bread.

Nice Gary. I like it when we can fab up stuff to make the job easier and in this case produce a consistent product. Mobil, I knew the stuff came in a stick and was planning on cutting it with my single edge razor blades. I like Gary's answer.

I got the VTS email too. Surprise! They now come in pre-cut packages of 25! Only about $4 a pack, I ordered two.

Ayuh, that works. I haven't had to dismantle any windows so far.

It's a good idea to replace all of those with new because the old ones dry out and shrink and then the glass can fall out much easier when you hit a bump or pot hole. We have 6 foot wide by 6 inch deep pot holes on the 5 and the 10 in So Cal. It's much easier to clean the entire window if you remove all the glass slats anyway. Then hit the whole mechanism with acid and a scotchbrite pad. Gary did a great job on his. They look better than new.
