Mel was there any putty tape under the fold over? Yes both over and under I've noticed over the years that the trailers that had the thin putty tape under the fold over do much better than without. You have a really nice find here Mel. Great project.

What do you usually do when putting it back together? On the compact I did put some under and over, but I felt like it was a bit thick when trying to fold that edge over, maybe I just need to find the thinner stuff.

Vintage Trailer Gaskets sells 1/2 wide by 1/16 inch thick putty tape just for that purpose. Works great. Apply the tape to the sides every place that the fold over covers and then just proceed as normal using a block and mallet.

You can also find butyl 1/2 x 1/16 at roofing companies. They sell it very reasonably.

I'm loving seeing your pictures Mel. What I wouldn't give for an original goucho to have re-done. I feel bad, I tossed it a few weeks ago. I forgot that you had said you wanted it, it had mold/mildew on the back of it and really smelled, so I dont think you could have salvaged any of it. There are measurements of the originals floating around on the internet so you could have one made. Im sorry I feel really bad. Im just going to put a memory foam mattress back there in mine and keep it a bed all the time.

Ten thank you. Also I don't see where I would light the fridge. I need to test it out. Do I light it in the back where the vent opens? I don't understand why I can't figure it out lol Also did you take out your water tank? is it just screwed down? I already have the fill off.

This morning I shellacked and took out the back panel, after dinner I installed them Shellac IMG-3877 by Mel L, on Flickr Panel out IMG-3887 by Mel L, on Flickr Panel in, Ill probably add more more support across. I had to climb all the way in the storage area under the bed to make this happen, just my feet were hanging out haha. Got to practice my army crawl. IMG-3896 by Mel L, on Flickr I actually messed up with my measurement, so I had to make the two pieces on the sides of the window separate, Im glad it was something I could work with and didnt have to scrap the whole panel. I have been on the hunt for flooring a while now, I really haven't found anything I like that's in my price range. But today while at my moms(45min away) it dawned on me that some weird store she likes has cheap carpet remnants and rugs, so I thought I would stop by to see if they had sheet vinyl and guess what they sure do. Im super picky and wasnt seeing anything I liked but then off to the very edge was one roll I didnt mind, and it seemed thicker and better quality than the others. Score! $50 for a 9x12' the name of the store is called Ollie's and its sort of like a big lots Its nothing fancy but with all the trouble I have had finding something. I like it and think it will work well in the camper. Just a light grey neutral color. IMG-3907 (1) by Mel L, on Flickr
