So I am picking up the 64' Airflyte tomorrow and I need to know what hitch drop do I need to buy. I dont have the Airflye here to measure how high the tongue is off the ground. Maybe one of my fellow Airflyte owners wouldn't mind measuring for me?? Ten , yas , nccamper , Dad Rambles , speak ,who else am I missing? My moms SUV hitch hole measures 16 1/4 from ground to center of the square. I hoping to run to harbor freight at 9am when they open

mel , The hitch height is going to be similar to that of the Compact. Whatever you already have that has pulled the Compact should pull the unladen Airflyte too. I maeasured my tongue height, but the problem is that where it is parked, it is not leveled and the ground drops toward the front of the camper. A rough guess puts the top of the ball in the coupler at anywhere between 16 and 21 inches high. But, if your tires are properly inflated, the bumper will not drag if you have the front a little high.

I can go out and measure the compact, would I add two inches since the tires are 13" on the compact but 15" on the airflyte?

I would not let the tire height worry you much. The difference 2 inches of rim circumference makes is about a half inch to an inch in height. I would guess anything between a 4 to an 8 inch drop will still work. If you are starting from scratch you may want to start with an adjustable hitch, something like this: buffalo.craigslist.org/rvs/5893424579.htmlIn the long run, an adjustable weight-distribution hitch should be on your Christmas list... They are pricey, and a bit of overkill until you are ready to actually start hauling with complete gear and all. You would not regret towing with it however.

I'm not ignoring you either - but I'm 900 miles away from home and my Airflyte. It will be a week before I'm home to measure it. Hopefully you're already on your way. Good luck!

Hopefully, you made it home by now. But I have an adjustable drop for such situations. I don't like to use it all the time but it's handy when swapping back and forth with different trailers. I have to have a 8" drop on my Jeep for my Compact.

I have to have a 8" drop on my Jeep for my Compact. It towed home perfect, no pulling or swaying. We did avoid the freeway because the tires were old, we were going around 55mpg the hole way home. I ended up going with a 4" drop for my moms Ford Edge, fingers crossed it will work for the compact too, but who knows. Luckily it was only $20 at harbor freight. Heres the the photos of you want to check it out vintagetrailertalk.freeforums.net/thread/7733/1964-shasta-airflyte-project
